I had tried a finer grit (120), but it was a little too fine and left a dust when you pushed in pins, I even did it in a separate pouch so that there were 2 layers of fabric. So I went down a little to 100 grit. this size does perfect no residue dust on anything. I am still doing 2 layers but it works great and those needles and pins come out smooth and sharp! Granted this size is a bit much for your everyday use, but for me I make a lot of pin cushions and this is just a bonus!
