We have tried ear buds but they fall out. These sit perfectly over the ear and are very comfortable. They are very easy for any kid to use and connect.

Thats good to know because the kids can still hear what is going on around them. Also, because its not IN the ear, the risk of hearing damage is lessened. Overall, the headset is very light, so little ears will not hurt from wearing it.
