> 24 hourI got the switch to help manage my wired home network. I have been experiencing some slowing with a previous switch and wanted to give this one a try. Installation and connection was very easy everything you needed was in the box. It does seem like you have to connect to the Internet since the switch does have some software to download, How about that process happened fairly quickly. The process took me about 15 minutes to get everything connected and software download it switch has been working amazing. Im getting top speeds out of my wired devices which is excellent. I love the status lights on the front of the switch, Also the app is very informative about your connections.

> 24 hourI knew it was a gamble when I purchased it, but knowing the Aruba enterprise products fairly well I felt this could be what I needed. If you need a basic, basic layer 2 switch thats not consumer grade - get this. If you want to do anything that even resembles enterprise switching, then dont. Youre better off buying an old Cisco 2960C off ebay.

> 24 hourSummary: Everything most home lab or SOHO users need in a switch at an attractive price. Details: Prior to my current career, I was studying for my Cisco networking certifications which left me somewhat dismissive of consumer-level gear. In particular, Ive always felt the need for a nice managed switch. Unfortunately it is just hard to justify buying a $1,000 infrastructure switch or even a $500 Ubiquity, and a lot of the other managed switches for home users are light on features. After all, if I am honest I just need a couple of VLANs and a few PoE ports. This piece of Aruba kit perfectly balances price and features. It provides you with 24 ports (12 Power-over-Ethernet), 2 SFP to provide interface options, and all the features most people need. Even better it has an easy to access, local web-interface that makes setting VLANs and debugging problems exceedingly easy. In particular, I really like the PoE interface which clearly explains how many watts each device is using and can even prioritize shutdowns in the case of an overly large power demand. It even has a well documented CLI interface if you prefer that. In addition to the basics it has most of the options I could see needing in a SOHO setup like spanning tree protocol and port mirroring. And all of this is clearly exposed, if not explained, in the web interface. I havent tried their remote interface and I probably will not as I prefer to run things locally, but it is a nice option to have. In addition, the hardware is solid and has a fan that changes speed depending on load. In my rack I think it is off most of the time... or at least is quieter than the other fans in the system. The only downside I see to it, ironically given its name, is that it takes a bit longer to come up after being turned on and off than I would prefer. It isnt a huge deal because this will likely be restarted once every six months or so! If you know enough about networks to need a managed switch, this will be easy to operate and setup. Plus I think it hits a real sweet spot between price and performance.

> 24 hourThe Aruba Instant On 1830 8-Port Gb Smart Switch is an 8-port, managed, PoE powered switched designed for small/home offices or advanced home networks. This allows for things like VLANs, link aggregation, and port mirroring. I have a mix of TP-Link Omada and Cisco Small Business devices for my network; Ive used Ubiquiti products in the past, so Ill be giving some comparisons. MANAGEMENT The main draw of a switch like this is the management capabilities that it provides. There are two options for configuring the switch -- you can either connect it to Arubas cloud and manage it through the Instant On website or mobile app, or you can configure it for web-based local management without connecting to the cloud. However, Aruba really pushes you to connect it to the cloud -- the included instructions only discuss connecting it to the cloud, and you have to search their website to figure out how to set it up locally without connecting to the cloud first (basically just navigate to the IP of the switch). As the obvious preference is to connect to the cloud, that is how I am reviewing the switch. The web-based cloud interface provides a list of connected devices, their current network usage, and aggregate network use. Theres an easy to use interface to configure VLANs, port mirroring, and port aggregation. Upon first setup, the firmware of the switch gets automatically upgraded to the latest release. In comparison to other manufacturers, it has all the basics, but it doesnt look as slick and doesnt provide as many options. I prefer every other manufacturers interface to this. PHYSICAL The switch is relatively compact for a 8-port managed switch, but its bigger than an unmanaged switch. This comes with options for wall mounting, but no rack mount options. There is an included power brick, but this particular model does allow for PoE input on port 1, making it ideal as a switch at the edge of your network, such as maybe your desk or media center. The separate power brick isnt ideal but not totally unexpected. PERFORMANCE It works as well as any other gigabit switch, allowing for the full gigabit speed. SUMMARY This switch provides a fairly inexpensive, easy to use managed switch that is designed for home and small business networks. Its priced reasonably (though more than TP-Link, less than Cisco) and has all the features youd need. If you have multiple Aruba Instant On devices, you can view them all in a single place. On the downside, the web-based cloud interface is overly simplistic and I would prefer the method for local management to be a little more prominent.

> 24 hourThis is my first Aruba product and I am impressed with it overall. Im not a network engineer, nor am I fluent in VLAN/routing/etc. I was able to figure out a configuration that I wanted for my house and all the PoE cameras. I have a few VLANs that serve some access points throughout my house. The interface of the Aruba is easy to work with via web. I was not able to get the mobile app to work. Granted, I didnt try very hard, but it is not intuitive. I do not NEED the mobile app, so it isnt a big deal to me. It would be nice to do some thigs without having to log in on the web interface. Anyways, easily a 5 star product. Quality through and through!

> 24 hourThis switch is initially configured via the cloud, but can be configured locally after the initial setup. I love that half the ports are POE. This allows IOT devices within the office run without the need to plug in another power source. The management software is easy to use and works very well It helps detect issues with devices and cables attached to the LAN and allows me to find and analyze heavy traffic devices. A great switch for a small to medium sized business. I am very happy with this switch. I give it 5 stars.

> 24 hourHave a small business and I was usually using an unmanaged switch and decided to ‘switch’ to this for a little more control. I didn’t want to pay monthly charges for a managed switch, so this really fit the bill. Now, I’ve worked with big companies, and this switch wouldn’t cut the mustard. It’s a basic managed switch. So if you are looking for enterprise level, avoid this. However, if you are a small business or home user who wants a little control and stats over your network, then this is your solution. Overall, great as a next step over unmanaged switches. I hope this review was helpful!

> 24 hourThis switch works exactly as you would expect. It drops right into its spot, POE powers my AP and other POE devices, and I get full gigabit speed through it. What I am annoyed by is the app. To initially setup the switch you MUST use the app and creating an account. Being forced to setup network equipment through an app is kind of annoying. Its also annoying to me that I needed to scan a QR code thats on the back on the switch so once I had physically installed it into my rack and plugged in all the cables, I had to pull it all back out to get to the qr code. That qr code issue isnt always an issue, just in my case my space is so tight I cannot access the back of my rack. After setting it up I was able to manage the the switch locally and through the app which I guess is ok but then I had an outage and I was confused as to why. Traced the outage to the switch which I can only assume was a firmware update for the switch but I could never figure out why only the switch went down because as useful as the app claims to be, it doesnt tell you why the switch its managing went down. I can see the entire timeline of power events for the switch but not the reason why there was a power down event. Kind of annoying. Maybe my gripes are petty and small but I feel like if Im going to be forced to use an app to manage my switch, make it as powerful as locally managing it maybe? Anyways the switch works well so Im still giving it a 5/5 rating but waiting for the app to get better.

> 24 hourThis review is for the JL812A, the 24 port non-POE version. It is 1U size and includes rack mount hardware or rubber feet depending on your installation. Installation is straightforward. The unit automatically calls home and downloads updates. Once youve found the address for the unit you can access it from a web browser on your network. I did not download the associated Aruba app because I have different equipment across my network and rather than jump from app to app, I just keep is simple with browser access. There is a setup wizard that takes you through naming, password, DHCP, and SNTP. This product is designed for smaller environments that do not have dedicated IT personnel or complex network requirements. That said, there is a fair amount that you can do with this box. There are two SFP ports should you have special connectivity demands. I very much like the administrative interface. It is fast and very capable. I regard this as a semi-managed switch, one that can be set up very quickly by someone with minimal knowledge but with a number of options normally available for a managed switch. I will return to this review as I explore the unit further and if any problems crop up. One last note, the unit is modestly warm but not hot.

> 24 hourIm using this Aruba Instant On 1830 8-Port Gb Smart Switch, in an extensive home network with various servers on different floors. My router and main server on on the ground floor, where a 24 port ethernet switch is the main conduit. This Aruba switch is the hub of the network on the upper floor. My uses do do not require me to download the software to manage this switch through the cloud. All I did was plug it in and start connecting the ethernet cables to it. Within a few minutes the lights on the front were blinking with network traffic and all was well. This switch is built to a higher standard than the common switches used in consumer gear. Its all metal, and just feels like quality. Its also totally silent, no fan, no hum, no noise at all. I did some large file transfers through this switch and verified the GB speed that it offers. A nice piece of gear.
