Aurifil recently changed the names of all their colors, but the numbers have remained the same. I sincerely wish sellers on Amazon offering Aurifil, would include the thread number in their title to cut down on the confusion thats bound to result from the name change. For example . . .this thread title says its light sand but it used to be called beige. Some sellers are still using the old names while some have switched to the new. But this is still color #2000. Now for the review . . .how many times have you carefully measured before cutting your pieces, used a quarter inch foot on your machine and slowly stitched the pieces precisely to form a block . . .then measured your block and discovered it was smaller than the instructions said it should be? This used to be the most frustrating part about quilting for me . . .so much so, Id take my blocks to various instructors to trouble shoot. Thats when I discovered Aurifil 50 wt thread. I never realized how much difference the thread could make. But think about it . . .if the thread being used is approximately the same size as the threads woven into the fabric, the seams bury themselves into the fabric and take up less space . . .making perfect seams every time. Now, run a length of chain store thread through your fingertips and notice the lumps . . .there are no lumps in the Aurifil thread. They actually scorch the lumps off in the manufacturing process, leaving the thread silky smooth. Absolutely, hands down, the best thread for piecing. However, because its so fine, if stitching garments, its certainly strong enough to hold seams together, but its more difficult to pull gathers . . .so dont get rid of your poly/cotton threads as they still come in handy for garment sewing . . .but nothing but Aurifil comes near my quilts! As a side note, this particular color is Aurifils only color thats au-natural . . .no dyes . . .this is the color as it comes from the cotton . . .and blends beautifully with most light to medium colors. Its the color I reach for most frequently when piecing.

This thread is expensive for a reason. Ultra thin, silky smooth, strong. I wish I could afford to use it for all my quilting.

I love Aurifil threads. They work so well with quilting, that its a rare occurrence that I will use another thread. I have had little to no breakage, i dont have many issues with tension using this thread. It doesnt create much lint, so you dont have to stop and clean as much with any other brand.
