Beach Music: A Novel

> 24 hourThere was enough elegant, incredibly evocative writing to keep reading, but this book “doth protest too much,” railing against too many horrors of the times for one book. I worry that Conroy was working too hard with the major issues that from time to time he clings to stereotypes and forced snappy repartee to catch his breath.

> 24 hourI read this book in my 20s and loved it so much I wanted to read it again. Now in my 60s, it touched me in a much deeper way. Pat Conroy is a great storyteller and I highly recommend this book. But be ready; it will touch you deeply.

> 24 hourI would definitely recommend this book, it was a long read but very enjoyable, 900 pages but gripping. I was glad to read it on my iPad as I utilized the dictionary to look up various words. I never had a book require me to look up so many words I was not familiar with. Excellent read!

> 24 hourMy brother hooked me on Conroy. I found that I either loved his novels or liked them. Loves: Lords Of Discipline, The Great Santini, The Water Is Wide Likes: Prince Of Tides, Beach Music I’m about done with Beach Music and will be happy when complete. I agree with others that complain about so many subplots. The halocaust stories were too much and I found myself wanting to skip the chapters (I didn’t). This is a long book with near 700 pages. He should have somehow made two novels. This one is long and frankly depressing. Not a Christmastime reader! If you want a great Conroy novel, read The Lords Of Discipline.

> 24 hourHad seen Prince of Tides ,but never read any of Pat Conroy s works. This summer I stayed on St. Helene s Island. While there took a golf cart tour in Beaufort,SC. Had started this book right before tour. Fell in love with Mr. Conways life. His way with words takes you on a journey you will never forget. If you havent read this give yourself a blessing and do so.

> 24 hourHavent read a Conroy book in awhile but this was way to wordy for me. Liked the characters and their individual stories. Just seems like there was always 5 words where 3 would have been perfect.
