I bought this for my wife to make crystals with,,I only got 5 pounds ...well that is not enough to make decent sized crystals with the setup she is using so my only advice is to get alot!! If you think you have enough for what you want to do, buy five more pounds..lol. my wife did get some really nice color and formations from the five pounds I purchased . But I believe she will need at least ten more pounds to get large crystals (15 pounds all together) another tip I have is ...get as many crystals out on the first cooling cycle because each time you reheat you lose metal to slag on the surface!! I am definitely buying more from this seller!!!

All it takes to melt is a cast iron pot and a propane stove. With some casting sand a little imagination you can cast just about anything. Its not a strong metal but it is fun to learn.

I cornered my house with bismuth. 2 chunks each corner in the basement sills with a heavy magnet as a draw. I did this in the garage rafters with a 4000 lb. magnet as a draw. I also used a chunk to hold a 750 lb. magnet in place at a point of electrical interference.

Would like to know what these stains are on my recent 5 lb bismuth metal order. I have used Rotometals in the past for 10s of pounds of bismuth and they have been flawless. If theres any chance these stains will contaminate the rest of my Bismuth once melted down, I would respectfully ask for a refund or another order. I will take down/edit this review upon fulfillment

Do not go by the stock photo. Two or five lbs of this metal will be small because of its weight. I knew this, so I was happy. Its Bismuth. It is heavy, it melts, it came in a chunk.

You will receive a box containing 5 pounds of bismuth chunks. It will arrive in multiple pieces. Bismuth metal is great for element collectors, crystal makers or any one who has a use for a low melting temperature metal. It is a non toxic metal with symbol Bi and atomic number 83 Element 83 has quite the repertoire of unique features: Low melting temperature making it perfect for DIY casting projects and alloying. With some practice, you can make beautiful hopper crystals. The most diamagnetic element (repels magnetic fields). Has one of the lowest thermal conductivity values among metals. Expands upon solidification like ice from water, and can be used to make a tight-fiting casting such as typesetting. Makes an excellent lead substitute due to being non toxic, although you should still wear protection when handling it. In earth"s crust, it is twice as rare as palladium and only twice as abundant as platinum and gold. Increased phase-out of lead in manufacturing means demand for Bismuth (and its price) will skyrocket - it"s only a matter of time. Bi is very brittle so expect some crumbling during shipping. We always strive to provide the biggest chunks possible.
