> 3 dayWorth the price. Best carpet cleaner I’ve ever owned. Comparatively speaking, it is a bit pricy, but worth every penny. Could not possibly recommend more.

> 3 dayGot this to replace my parents Hoover which has been sorely abused and used due to the pet messes and insane amounts of carpet cleaning I have had to do. I will highlight on some of the good points and some of the bad. Pros: Excellent brush and suction control, had I used the Hoover over this, my carpet would STILL be wet 20 minutes later. At the same mark, using this machine the carpet was just Damp with a hint that it was just cleaned and completely dry within the hour.*Drying conditions vary upon environment, material, temp and humidity levels of the area being cleaned. The suction hose Locks in tight and has a rubber gasket to ensure maximum suction, the design is also loaded directly into the soiled water holding tank from the top unlike the Hoover which spills all of its nastiness back onto the floor that was previously in the hose. Its advised that you walk the water back into the tank (Hold the head of the hose up high in the air to make a straight line as possible with the hose into the holding tank to reduce residue when you detach the hose (make sure unit is running during this time). The soiled water compartment is extremely easy to detach, dump and clean. Unlike the Hoover which has a filter inside of the soiled water compartment, this one has a wide mesh filter so only the heaviest of particles get caught in it (works wonders on soiled carpet thats covered in dog hair, no more stopping and having to clean the filter) Easy foldup and store for later design, the machine is actually LIGHTER than my Hoover. It does tend to be a little bit more heavier when fully loaded with solution. Machine does not have a separate vat for solution, it requires the solution to be mixed with HOT water (Faucet Hot, not steaming hot). However if your just doing a general spill pickup, loaded regular water and you should be fine. Cons: A bit harder to turn than my Hoover but not much more. Tends to get caught up a little bit more on carpet seems (from tile to carpet) and such but then again, this is also the design of the machine to ensure maximum contact with the carpet. This thing really did an excellent job cleaning dog diarrhea out of my carpet that was standing for some time (Looked like a giant cookie by the time I got home from work and found it) This is the best machine between Commercial and Home Use, a mixture of both at a decent price. DOES NOT HAVE A HEATER! Then again, you shouldnt be using a steamer on Carpet to begin with, especially with wood floors underneath. Best way to clean a stain from a carpet. 1. Clean ASAP 2. Put a pre solution down, I generally like to dilute Dawn Dish Soap in hot water and use it on the stain, let it set for about five minutes. 3. Power up the BG and go over it with solution mixed in hot water, pass over the area a few times or until stain is removed. Allow to dry and vacuum after to restore the fluff of the carpet. Never, ever ever use steam on a carpet stain. This permanently sets the discoloration of the stain into the carpet and ruins it. Steaming carpets also destroys the hardwood underneath the floor so if you enjoy floor rot, I would highly recommend using a cold water machine like the BG. This did an excellent job bringing the water back up over my Hoover. (As long as you can get as much water up as possible your hardwood should be OK) Do not use on hardwood or laminate wood composite floors.

Greater than one weekFirst, I am an engineer .... which means I analyze everything. I was concerned about the hand tool portion of this product, but I neednt be. It worked very well. This product not only gets the carpet deep clean, it sucks out nearly all the moisture from the carpet and allows it to dry in no time. Seriously, by the time I got to the other end of my living room, the side I started on was already dry. The tanks (clean and dirty) are super easy to use. I prefer to fill and empty in my laundry room wash tub and these both work great in there. The unit has a little spin indicator when you are applying solution. This is great since you always know the moment you are out. The cord wrapping mechanism is the best I have ever seen in a product. Super easy and fast. Yes, it is more expensive than the typical cheap model, but it is worth it in spades. Additionally, the materials this thing are made out of are super durable. It is built like a tank and I expect many years of use. It is a bit heavy compared to the consumer models, but it is oh so much better at getting the job done. It is worth the little extra space it takes up in the closet and the fact that I have to move it up and down stairs for my wife to use on different floors (it is a bit much for her). At the end of the day, I am a consumer where the most important thing for me is does it work well and last a long time. Everything else is secondary.

> 3 dayThis is a well made machine with no bells and whistles. There is no rinse option, the Bissell stair attachment apparently does not fit the Big Green, but it comes with an upholstery attachment . The brush is a simple vacuum cleaner type brush. A nuisance is that you cant see the fluid level in the solution reservoir so there is no warning when you run out of solution. And it goes through a lot more solution than my previous uprights, the greater suction leaves it about equally as dry/wet, but it appears to do a better job cleaning, possibly getting deeper. . The machine is built like its intended to be a rental and Im convinced it will hold up; Im tired of my fairly expensive uprights busting apart if just banged against a stair. I dont know if the absence of a rinse option is a significant disadvantage, but my prior machines have had an auto-rinse feature.

> 3 dayThis is our third different carpet shampooer in the last three decades.. at least thats how I remember it. One was a Hoover with the five round spinning brushes which we lost in a house fire, and I cant remember the other It heated the water but got tossed because it eventually leaked. I will add that I worked for Electrolux one summer for some spare change when I was teaching so I have been around some pretty nice equipment and know how to clean carpeting. We have a new home now with some very nice, upgraded carpeting. We needed a new shampooer because we live on ten rural, burned-over acres with a lot of dirt and dust when it is dry and a good amount of mud when it is wet. We also have a rambunctious German Shepherd. With a sort of beach-sand, tan color deep, dense carpeting I want to keep clean I needed something that could do the job. I spent a good amount of time shopping and when I finally came near the end it came down to a choice between the Bissell Big Green and the Rug Doctor. I chose the Bissell. The pre-sale factors were the numerous reviews of the Bissell stated that it got the carpet really dry, it was easy to use, it was smaller, and came with the accessory hose, and cost less. I got a chance to shampoo the entry way at our front door. There is a vinyl area just inside the door, and beyond that is a carpeted area about 12 feet long and 6 feet wide. Following the mixing directions I made about half of a tank of cleaner and followed the directions for use. Hold the spray button while walking forward and then back, then release the button and make a similar pass to pick up the cleaner. I did much the same for three small area rugs made from scraps of the same carpeting. One of those sits in the kitchen at my espresso bar and gets stained with coffee grounds, dripped coffee, and more. Also the carpet inside the utility room with a door to our attached garage. That one acts are a door mat from when I come in, sometimes with muddy shoes from working on our property, often with hand tools or when running our tractor and chipping burned brush and trees.. You can imagine what that one looked like. The results: I could not be more pleased. After just 8 months living in our new home it was astounding how much dirt Big Green pulled up. I made an extra pass or two to pull up as much of the cleaner as possible, and just after a couple of hours the carpet felt humid when I ran my hand over it, and in around four hours was dry. I vacuumed the carpet I shampooed this morning and you could close your eyes and walk on it and feel how much fluffier it is compared to the area I did not clean with Big Green. SUCTION: good suction efficiently applied to carpet is the key to an efficient shampooer. You can use a garden sprayer and a floor broom to loosen the dirt, but without a way to get that moisture and dirt up it is a waste of time. Big Green has an efficient brush roll that is easy to clean and by removing a few easy-to-access screws makes changing belts easy as well. And did I mention excellent suction! Even the hose and hand tool did a very good job on an old muddy footprint my dog left some time ago. With the other shampooers I would have to shampoo, then pick up that liquid, then put clean water to rinse the carpeting and it would still come up dirty, and then sty wet for a long time, sometimes being heavily humid still the next day. I had rented the Rug Doctor in the past and am so glad I got the Big Green. For a home owner, it surpasses the Rug Doctor in so many ways. It stores easily in a closet, the tanks are easy to fill and clean and attach simply and quickly to the base unit, the handle release can be operated by your foot, and the folding handle makes storing easy. Although it weighs around 50 pounds, it is not difficult to move and the weight keeps the business end on the carpet where it belongs. Have you really read this far? Just go buy the thing and enjoy your clean carpets!

> 3 dayUPS delivered the Bissell Big Green cleaner last night and I put it to work immediately. Just to give you a little info, we do NOT have any pets and do not wear shoes in the house. I have a dyson, and vacuum my house at least once a week. As such, the condition of my carpet is above average compared to homes with shoes worn in the house and have pets running around. Before I get into the results, let me describe the packaging. The machine is per-assembled. The box is quite heavy and requires two adults to move it. You can tell this product is well constructed. In addition to the main machine, it also comes with a hose with a hand wand to clean furniture and staircase. As stated by other reviewers, Bissell included a bottle of deep cleaning solution in the compartment. So make sure you remove the cardboard and the bottle of cleaner from the machine. I dont see how people can start using the machine without remove the items, as you have to fill the container with the cleaning solution. DUH! I have steamed clean the carpets once in the last 8 years. This Big green puts that rented cleaner to shame. I was surprised how much dirt, dust and lint the big green pulls up. Every time I push the Big Green forward, I see a lump of black lint/dust/dirt trailing it. It is just amazing how powerful this machine is. The carpet looks and feels very clean after a single pass, and there is minimal dampness. I turn the fan on and the carpet dries up in about 15-20 minutes. My thermostat tells me the humidity in my house is about 39%...just in case you are wondering... As I mentioned at the top, this machine is quite heavy. Adding the cleaning solution to the container does not help ease the mobility of the machine. Pushing and pulling the machine is not a problem as the wheels are well constructed. However, if you are trying to change directions (side to side), youll need to put some muscles into it. I own a few rental properties. In the past, I have called professional cleaners and it normally cost me about $180+ to clean 3 rooms. I think this machine is going to save me a lot of money in the long run. I highly recommend getting the Bissell Big Green Deep Cleaning machine if you find yourself paying professional cleaners to clean your carpet and furniture more than once a year. I know I will be steam cleaning my carpet more often from now on... ***UPDATE*** I recently evicted tenants from my 3 bedroom rental property. These boys were practically as irresponsible as you can get. In in the six months they were there, they pretty much trashed up the apartment. The carpet took the brunt of the abuse. There were dark black patches on the carpet, and the stench from the carpet was almost unbearable. It amazes me how someone could live in such conditions. The condition of the carpet was so bad that my wife wanted to just replace it. I told her to give the big green a chance... So I bought a bottle of Bissell Professional Deep cleaning with Febreze Freshness and Renewal formula and went to work. Initially, I used a dyson vacuum to clean up whatever dirt we could see with our eyes. If you have ever used a Dyson, you know it does a phenomenal job on carpets. I filled up the Dyson canister twice just for the living room. After using the Dyson, the carpet looked like it had a glimmer of hope, but the stench was still overwhelming and the black dark spots were even more visible. I ran the big green through the ragged carpet, and I could practically see it pull up dirt and the liquid it was lifting off the carpet was black! I ran the big green back and forth in at an extremely slow pace with the spray trigger on all the time. The before and after was startling! Even my wife was extremely surprised by how effective the big green is. Even with the spray trigger on at every pass, the carpet was barely damp. The powerful suction and rotating brush pulled dirt out from the very bottom of the carpet. After letting the carpet air out for about 15 minutes, I made another pass with the Dyson. I then made another pass with the big green. This time, the extracted liquid was not as black, but it was still able to pull a lot of dirt out of the carpet fabric. I believe the first pass acted like a pre-treatment, and with the second pass, it was able to loosen and extract more dirt out of the carpet. After the second pass, the carpet looked fresh and very clean. It no longer had the stench, and the carpet lives to see another day! There is NO DOUBT in my mind, that a professional cleaner will NOT be able to do as good of a job as the big green given the condition of the carpet. Just by this job, the Bissell Big Green has paid for itself multiple times!!!

19-11-2024This is the 3rd Bissel carpet cleaner Ive owned. The first 2 were the Bissel Pro Heat. I bought a second one after the first was stolen. I loved it so, that I replaced the stolen one with the exact same thing. This review is comparing the Bissel Pro Heat to the Big Green Pro (hereafter referred to as BGP) The Pro Heat has a separate reservoir for cleaning solution so upon finishing cleaning, any solution not used could be used with the next cleaning. The BGP does not have a separate reservoir. With the BGP, the cleaning solution is added directly to the water and if you dont use all the water, the solution is wasted. The instructions for the BGP states to make passes (first with solution, second without) until the water being extracted appears clean. The Pro Heat has a clear channel where the extracted water can be easily seen. The BGP is a white plastic. Unless youre in a very well lit room, seeing if the water extracted is dirty let alone finished being extracted is difficult. The Pro Heat has a built in water heater heating the water to 180 degrees. The BGP does not. As hot as your tap water can get, is as hot of water the BGP will clean with. One gripe Ive read with other carpet cleaners is the weight of the cleaner. Stands to reason, the heavier the cleaner, the closer to the carpet the cleaner will stay hence, the more water that can be extracted. The Pro Heat Im guessing to weight about 13 pounds, stays well to the carpet, and extracts water pretty good. The BGP is more than twice as heavy weighing 29 pounds (I believe is what I read). I could use the Pro Heat for 3 hours and not feel it in my back. 10 minutes into using the BGP, I could start feeling it in my back. Because of the weight and suction, the BGP could use some assistance with self propelled rear wheels. If you have back problems or are very limited strength, the BGP probably isnt for you. The carpet here was new just over 2 years ago. I usually clean the carpet every 6 months, but for a variety of reasons, I didnt get to it like normal. Before getting the BGP, I used the Pro Heat on a Friday night and then again Saturday morning. Two weeks later, I used the Pro Heat one last time just to make sure the carpets were as clean as possible since it had been 2 years without them being cleaned. Because the carpets were new upon moving here, I wanted the best carpet cleaner. I wasnt concerned with the cleaning ability of the Pro Heat as the 3rd cleaning yielded very little unclean water. But with the new carpet and plenty of money in my pocket, decided to give the BGP a try. Howd the carpet turn out with the BGP after having cleaned the carpet 3 times with the Pro Heat and within a month of getting the BGP? Only one phrase to describe it: holy-fn-cow! I could NOT believe how dirty the water was. It looked like the carpets hadnt been cleaned in 2 years. I am sooo disappointed in how the Pro Heat cleaned. All this time I thought my carpets were getting clean when the truth of the matter is, they werent... not like how the BGP cleans them. Im convinced the BGP cleans better than any professional carpet cleaner. Professional carpet cleaners have hot water and suction, they do not have a carpet bar that scrubs the carpet. For what youll pay for a pro to come clean your carpets twice, youll have pretty much paid for the BGP. You DO NOT want any other carpet cleaner. With more than 8000 reviews and no 1, 2, or 3 star ratings from the United States, theres a reason why. The BGP EARNED the 4 and 5 star ratings that it has. Again, do NOT buy any other carpet cleaner. Save your money, pimp your spouse, your dog... the neighbors cat... whatever it takes to be able to afford this carpet cleaner. You will not be disappointed in it like I am in the Bissel Pro Heat. One thing I like about the BGP over the Pro Heat (and others like it), is the upholstery hose on the BGP is detachable and can be stored away until its needed. The Pro Heat, the upholstery hose doesnt detach and must stay on at all times. The holder for the upholstery hose on the Pro Heat is junk, and continually drops the hose. As mentioned previously, the BGP is heavy. When removing it from its shipping box, I recommend setting it on its side, cutting the bottom, and pulling all 4 flaps out, then tipping it back upright. From there, lifting the box up makes getting the BGP easy to get out of the box. With one person, youll have problems lifting the BGP out of the box while keeping the box down and in place. As to cleaning, the BGP out cleans the Pro Heat and any professional cleaner out there. For this, it gets 5 stars. As a whole, Ive given it 4 stars for reasons mentioned within: no onboard heat for water, no separate reservoir for cleaning solution, the need for low assist self propelling rear wheels, and white plastic instead of clear where the extracted water can be seen.

Greater than one weekI really like this product. The one thing I wasn’t happy about. From the very first use the flow meter leaked and leaked enough to making a cleanup not 100%. Once i had to replace the flow meter it hasn’t leaked & has cleaned the carpets like I had hoped for

> 3 dayDuring the market fall of 2008 I decided to buy a house in Tampa, Florida. The house was in pretty good condition with the exception of the carpets. Before we moved in we had the whole house carpeted areas professionally cleaned but after we moved in the light cream carpets started looking grey. I have hired various pros the last 5 years only to be told that the carpets could never be cleaned completely and having to live with this or just change them. In between professional clean ups I have been using my Hoover Professional carpet cleaner I bought about 10 years ago (I do not remember the model but it was a SIX brush unit). It did a decent job cleaning but heavy traffic areas always looked greyer than the rest and so we decided to buy some rugs to cover them up. Nothing I would do or anyone else made those areas look better. Lately I started thinking seriously changing the carpets for good, a job easier said than done in my house if you could see the stuff I have collected over the years. Desperate for a solution I came across ads and started researching various carpet cleaners from 150 bucks all the way to several thousand (our of curiosity of course!). I saw the Bissell Big Green and read as many reviews as I could at amazon and other sites. Even saw videos in youtube. Half convinced I finally decided to take the plunge thinking that if this would not work I could send the machine back to amazon. The unit came and I was surprised by its size and heft. My Hoover was supposed to be a pro model and did cost me around 350 bucks 10 years ago if I remember well. Still, the Bissell is bigger and heavier by close to 20 lbs. Anyway, I prepared the machine and started working on the worst areas in the house. After working for about 15 minutes I was astonished to see that those got cleaned up like never before since I moved in this house. I had used my Hoover last weekend but the Bissell was cleaning areas that the Hoover could not even touch cleaning. The water extracted after clean up was black and filthy looking like I had never cleaned out these areas before. Even areas that looked clean now looked like new with my new machine. Another surprise was just how effective and superior the cleaning solution 2X Ultra that came with the machine is compared to competitive products. I run out of the Bissell cleaning solution and had to use some of the stuff I had on hand (two different brands). The difference was huge and the effort to get the same results was by far bigger. Go figure! I ordered a big bottle of the 2X Ultra which I received today. The carpet areas I have cleaned so far look like new and the carpet feels like it is rejuvenated somehow. All in all here are some observations and myth basters: 1. The Big Green is big and heavy. You will feel it in your arms and back after prolonged usage. Take your time and be careful. 2. The clean water and dirty water tanks are HUGE. This speeds up cleaning time by avoiding frequent stops for replenishing and clean up. 3. Clean up of the Big Green is a dream! The Hoover could never be cleaned completely due to its design. The Big Greens dirty water container comes in two pieces very easy to clean with tap water. Just do the clean up as soon as you get done using the unit. 4. Some people claim the machine to be made cheap! Nothing is further from the truth. The plastic used in this unit is heavy and the machine looks like it will last for a very long time. 5. This is not an easy unit to use in hard to reach areas. Open areas are best for this. I had to move many furniture for effective cleaning. 6. Use the Bissell 2X Ultra liquid for best results. My comparisons with two different and very well known brands were very educating. 7. The unit creates a lot of the fur balls digging lint form the carpet. You will have to pick those up by your hand. Also the brushes in the bottom get clogged after heavy use. Make sure you turn the machine over (after removing the liquid containers) and clean them regularly. This shows just how well the machine cleans your carpet. 8. I have used several brands of commercial rental cleaners. Also I have seen many other so called professional machines used in this house the last 5 years. The Bissell BEATS them ALL and by a long shot. I really works. 9. NO! I never managed to clean a heavily soiled area by one or two passes like in some videos. You have to work the machine to get results and this is what I did. Multiple passes and plenty of liquid. Dry thoroughly afterwards! Try the unit and you will see by yourself. Just follow the instructions and be amazed. If for any reason you do not like it then just send it back to amazon and get done with it. I am keeping this baby for good! My carpets never looked better. This has really saved me thousands in new carpet for the time being. Cheers

> 3 dayI purchased this for the sole purpose of cleaning my Karastan rugs. Somewhere on line there was a comment (might have been Bissells site) that said this machine was intended for carpet and not rugs. Whatever the case, the Green Machine did an outstanding job on my Karastans. Last year, I paid $750 to have my 4 rugs cleaned. This included me having to roll them up and bringing to the cleaner. That was a major pain AND expensive. This year, we had a sick dog who did some serious work on two of our rugs. It was gross so we took the rugs down to the garage and fired up the Green Machine. The first 9x12 Karastan used a complete tank of cleaner for two complete passes. We ended up cleaning the rug 5 times till the water ran clean. Next rug was 5x8 and it needed 6 passes. And to be clear, the first 5 passes produced waste water that was like mud. My wife and I couldnt believe it nor could she believe how clean the rugs were. I reread the manual and saw the instructions on running passes till the water runs clear. That sure was right. Couple of points: The clean water tank is a little less than 2 gallons. No where could I find that stated so I measured it. The cleaning solution that came with the machine ((3) 8oz bottles) stated 2.5 oz per gallon of solution. The smart filler cap is a measuring cup as well and the fill line is 2.5 oz. Filled to the top, it is 4oz. So, the manual says to use two capfuls which I assumed to be capfuls to the fill line which would be 5oz of cleaning solution. I actually used a filled to the top (4oz) capful and added about 1.5 gallons of hot water (about a 1/2 inch below the full line) and that worked beautifully. The machine is easy to move and is very smartly engineered. However, under power it is a beast. The brush system and the suction make it fairly difficult to move consistently. My wife and I got the hang of it after the first 10 minutes but the work wore my wife out after 10 minutes or so. She needed a break (or she just wanted me to do it!). Either way, be prepared to get a workout if youre going to use for an extended period. In all, we are very glad we purchased this machine as it paid for itself immediately. I was a little hesitant after reading Consumer Reports but one needs to read those reviews carefully. For actual cleaning, this machine was tops in their tests but they ended up rating it towards the middle of the pile because sound and dryness scores knocked it down. To us, it is not deafening and we expected the rugs to be damp (about a third to half of the cleaning solution was extracted). And frankly the most important thing we wanted, by far, was a clean rug. And thats what we got. Great machine.
