Bought this at Office Max, err Office Depot¿, and I have to say what a pile of garbage it is. Even my own mother who does book keeping says this program is way too confusing and can see where there could be a lot finance errors. Heck, not to mention a whole bit of spelling errors within the program itself. Tell me again why I should put in my SSN into this program again? I cant even give it a half star! X-C

I gave a one star rating to get your attention. Its two stars at best, and I simply dislike it. As of 05/02/2015 I purchased the latest version of the Avanquest Bookkeeper Software. I was quite disappointed. Be forewarned that: 1. This program has severe limitations in templates 2. Output options for printed documents also deeply limited 3. Graphics options for personalization is extremely limited; probably because they want you to buy logo software program they also sell 4. Workflow has a printing glitch; printing is delayed by a make selection screen that halts your workflow, then sort of reboots before giving a final printing option. This is very, very annoying as youll see. 5. THIS PROGRAM IS NOT INTUITIVE NOR USER FRIENDLY. It may have a simple user interface, but the LEARNING CURVE IS STEEP due to poor design. 6. You will have two Help options for this program other than customer support (see below). The first is the Help Topics sub-program, which is entirely minimal and inflexible. It is useless. You will learn this program by trial-and-error. The second is the FAQ online option at www.avanquest.com. The Help menus here are more extensive and informative, but frustrating in the event you arent familiar with the program to begin with (pick your poison!). 7. Do no expect discount options on future upgrades. Besides, you wont want one. **8. Above all else, be warned: there are no free customer support nor direct contact options other than by e-mail. Tech Support costs $10.00 - $20.00 out of the box, AND you will definitely need Tech Support. This accounts for the programs low initial cost, [and] even though theyre taking your money again, be prepared to hurry up and wait. One caveat: www.http://accounting-software-review.toptenreviews.com/small-business/bookkeeper-review.html reviews many buying options BUT will not warn you about serious program flaws. It also has fake vendor links which redirect to companies like “Herman Street” which sell obsolete software at inflated prices lacking serial nos. and purchase documentation. Read as much as you can elsewhere and buy carefully (i.e., Amazon) Final word: I use Intuit for its merchant services, with which I am quite pleased. I bought Bookkeeper out of desperation and was somewhat prepared for it to be a throw-away or tax.write-off. It has succeeded. Based on reviews Ive read, and my personal experience with Intuit as a vendor, I strongly urge you to make the Intuit purchase. There are cloud and one-time ownership purchase options if you desire. Unless you have an accounting background, YOU MUST audition these programs first, because Intuit particularly, is very complex and will almost certainly require assistance with installing even the trial version (especially if you have no pre-existing software from which to import your data). ~~~~~~~ 5/7/2015 UPDATE: I contacted Avanquest two months after my purchase. This is their response: Thank you for contacting Avanquest Technical Support. We apologize for the inconvenience. BookKeeper version 11 is a discontinued version that we no longer support. We will not be able to help you. I have requested an up-to-date replacement, but was denied.

Bookkeeper 2009 is really easy to follow. This is the perfect system for a small business or keeping track of your household expenses. The price was excellent.

I only gave the software a star because I didnt think that it would register without one. I purchased the software and wanted to import my data from Quickbooks. It didnt work, and gave me an error message that I didnt understand. I contacted Avanquest support, and received a response that was nonsense, and told to contact Intuit support. I dont think that Ananquest intends for their software to work, they just want you to buy it.

Here are the points of why i dislike it so much 1. Keeps it sample company as default even though I keep telling it to save mine as default. 2. Video tutorial and tech support not working. 3. Adding chart accounts wont accept any operating expense; you cant delete accounts already on the system whether you need them or not 4. Cant tailor chart of accounts the way you need or want them

Oh, how I wish I had heeded the reviews I read. I dont have payroll, so I thought it would be okay. Boy was I wrong. Its been 2 months and I still cant figure things out. Probably the worst is that I cant correct or change anything. After days, I finally figured out how to delete an invoice and a payment, but the payment still appears in my reports. I used Quickbooks for years but my computer crashed and I could not afford to get a new version. I thought this would be a great alternative since I have no employees or inventory. Its a simple service company. I have not figured out how to input balances in my chart of accounts. The program adds up all my balances and then gives me an error message because my net balance isnt zero. Cant get any help. I email questions with no response. I call and nobody answers. The users manual wont open, although one reviewer said it was a waste of time, too. Looks like Ill have to spend a few days creating my own bookkeeping system in Excel.

I bought the 2009 version (on the cheap) to test out and see if I liked the software so I could decide whether I would like to pay full price for the current version plus another 30 bucks or so for the tax tables to handle payroll. So far I am not terribly impressed. Im giving it one star, and I will update this listing with specific complaints until I break down, buy a better bookkeeping software, and throw this in the trash. 1) The payroll portion wont work smoothly unless you shell out an extra 30 bucks for the yearly tax tables. 2) There is no way to delete things. I thought I would make a fake bank account, and a fake employee so that I could figure out how to print paychecks. Now the software is convinced that I paid out $191.60 to my esteemed colleague Fakey McFakerson and wont let me delete the fake bank account. I am going to have to uninstall the software entirely to get rid of this transaction. So, if you plan to fool around with the software to figure out how it works, set up a company called Fake Company on which to experiment. You can never delete that either, but at least you wont have permanent mistakes in your real accounts.

I have used this software for years. Both for my husbands towing company, then for my cab company. Yes, it does take a bit of work, but it is SO worth every penny. I have used Quickbooks and while it is fancy, it does not do very well for support. My favorite version is the 2009 version. I upgraded to 2012, but it went down in quality somewhat.
