Greater than one weeklots of dirt out of filter comes out after pouring the water into the pitcher( the dirts are scattered from top to bottom). Not safe to drink the water into a cup as the black dirts are seen.

> 3 dayThey work well. If your city water isnt full of chlorine, and you dont drink much water from the pitcher, you can probably get by with replacing the cartridges at a longer interval than once a month. Note: even though the directions on this advanced model dont require it, I still soak a new cartridge for a few minutes at the bottom of the pitcher before filling the first time. I then throw out the first pitcher full of water because it is a little gray from stray charcoal particles.

> 3 dayThese new Brittany Filters really are different, to my surprise. They allow the water to drain more rapidly, thus the pitcher can be filled in half the time. I am sold!
