> 3 dayI have used DYMO products for many years, from the very basic model where it embosses the tape through stressing the material to change the colour to white, indeed I have one in my desk drawer, which is the basic model that has been around for 40 years or more, through to the much more complex labeller which we purchased for our administrative staff to assist them in making labels of various sizes, with up to three lines of text per label. This item from Brother is somewhere in between the basic and the high tech model we purchased for work. For £39.99 (21st April 2018) this item is high specced and is aimed for home use/small workshop; it has a hobby bias. Out of the wrapper, we were fortunate to have 6 AAA batteries to start using the item, although you can use for an adapter which we didnt have available and unless you intend to produce a huge number of lables, I would suggest would not be worth purchasing, although if you have one already with a suitable plug available there is that option - batteries last for ages for this type of item from my experience. Batteries fitted, we inserted the tape and it was ready for testing. The item was supplied with a 4 metre tape (huge) which produces gold text on a white background. I am being a bit picky, but black on white I feel would have been the better option for the starter pack, but I am picky! Using the machine was a breeze, the keyboard is positive and recorded the text I wanted to produce quickly and I printed a number of labels without reading the instruction leaflet - which after I read it suggests that this item can offer so much more than printing labels, it can also print of fabric labels, offers a range of additional options including printing on more than one line (wider tape required) print on fabric labelling material and offers a range of icons to enhance text. The screen is clear and permits checking text and design before printing, although it does not store like higher end items. All in all it is a great little printer, it is solidly made, there is a huge range of tapes available, the printer is easy to use and maintain and should last for years, in lots of ways it is outstanding and I am delighted to own it. There is one caveat though, in terms of price for consumables, it competes well with Dymo products, which in the long run will cost far more than this printer, however, I found that the printer itself, whilst well made was more expensive across the range over their Dymo competing product. I really feel that this is a 4.5 star item: it really is a great item and if you need the additional options which this item offers, you will not be disappointed, I just wished it was priced at 75-80% of the current price point as it would offer Dymo real competition.

> 3 dayFirst things first, this label printer takes 6 x AAA batteries, so be sure to stock up as they are not included. But thats the only bad point. Setup is a breeze, you simply pop in your batteries, load up the ribbon cartridge supplied, and you are locked and loaded and ready to craft. The printer comes with a cartridge that is pre-loaded with white ribbon, and gold ink. So basically you can print gold on white. The available designs are fantastic, so this would be a great gizmo to have if you are using a lot of ribbons. It is also worth knowing that you can buy a huge variety labels to print (eBay is good for this) that cost around £4 per cartridge. Including sticky labels for general use. It is simple to change the cartridge, they just pop out with no fuss. This will get plenty of use in our house for everything from cake toppers, to general household labelling. And for less than £40 it is very well priced.
