> 3 dayMust have been defective as the printer did not recognize the magenta cartridge. Did not install the other colors as they hadn’t run out yet. This is the exact ink cartridge my Canon printer uses. Returned for replacement.

> 3 dayI have used Canon inkjet printers for a long time. As to their expense, printer manufactures do not make any many on the sale of their printer, instead they make it on the supplies. But why buy the printer manufacturers ink? I used to buy compatible ink and I learned, the hard way, that they clog the print head over time. Ink comes in two basic flavors: dye and pigment. Canon uses dye based inks and Epson uses pigment based inks. Compatible ink manufacturers rarely say which they are using. Of the Canon, HP, and Epson printers Ive used, Canon has a single common print head; so, all ink flows through the same print head. This is important as some manufacturers use ink cartridges with independent print heads that are replaced with the cartridge. If a print head becomes clogged, a new cartridge would fix the immediate problem. Furthermore, print heads are designed according to the of ink they will be using and will have some difficulty with other inks. On other issues of color quality and longevity, there are a few studies that address this for photo printing.
