> 3 dayAiring on NBC from 1989-1998, “Seinfeld” is one of America’s most beloved sitcoms. The show was created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld and stars: Jerry Seinfeld as himself, Jason Alexander as George Costanza, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Elaine Benes, and Michael Richards as Cosmo Kramer. Commonly referred to as “The Show About Nothing,” many of the plot-lines were actually inspired by the writers’ real-life experiences. This vanity New York license plate was inspired by the episode “The Fusilli Jerry” which appeared as the 21st episode of the sixth season. The “ASSMAN” storyline involves Kramer picking up his new license plates from the Department of Motor Vehicles. When he sees that his plates read “ASSMAN,” he attempts to speculate on who could be the tags’ proper owner. His best guess is that the plates were intended for a proctologist; Kramer, thus, becomes the identity his plates describe and begins to park in ‘Doctors Only’ parking spaces. When I received my replica “ASSMAN” license plate, I was happy to find that the material (metal stamped, embossed aluminum) and design (12” x 6”, New York style and colors) is exactly that of a real license plate, right down to the four bracket holes; note that the single, noticeable difference is the absence of the indented rectangle meant for housing your vehicle’s registration sticker. The vanity plate also arrived fitted with shrink-wrap; I will likely leave this plastic coating on the plate as it is not visible and will provide protection from scratches. I am glad to have found this item as it has been a long-running joke in my family. The siblings will be indubitably jealous that it’s hanging on my old bedroom wall, because I found it first; and yet, come holidays time, I imagine I’ll find it has been mysteriously moved to my dad’s bedroom. I must say, “ASSMAN” does look classy mounted in a license plate frame and hanging among family-member diplomas.
