If they ever ask me to cut some port holes in a battleship, this is the tool I will take. This saw from CSOOM is a serious door stop. I was astonished at the heft of it when I got the parcel and then when I unpacked it. It is a very chunky indeed. I get the impression that this class of tool, that is the really big hole saw, has gotten extremely popular since the eruption of lots of recessed LED ceiling light kits. I have recently acquired several types of these recessed lights, particularly the 6 inch size and they ask that you use a 6.1 inch hole saw. One of the gurus that I watched on Youtube the other day was using a 6 3/8 hole saw. So I am hoping that this 6 inch saw will give me enough freedom. The kit in the box is very complete. I never expected to get an arbor set (thats the bit in the middle that attaches to the drill chuck) but not only is one included, but it is very nicely made and a new design style for me. You wind the hole saw onto the big thread until it beds at the bottom, but then you can use a twisting collar to insert the locking pins. This means that the whole kit is one piece and there are no pin collars to lose track of on the other augurs I have used before. Also they gave me three spare center drills. One would have been nice but three is insane. And they are nice quality 1/4 steel drill bits. But the reason it is all so heavy is that they used a rather strange design decision. The thread to hold the saw onto the augur needs about 1/4 to 3/8 of travel. Most designers would have welded a small collar onto a thin plate and that would keep it light, But this design uses a back plate that is about 1/4 inch thick for the whole 6 inch diameter back plate. This makes it heavy although super strong. Stronger than necessary. And for this application of cutting holes in the ceiling I am expecting tired arms. Incidentally one of the YouTube guys said, that a useful tip, is to run your drill backwards to saw the ceiling. The drywall is soft and it is easy to jam, so going in reverse cuts more gently and without a surprise burst through at the end. Its a pretty apple green color too! Recommended if you have strong arms.

Updated review: Im really impressed by the seller, CSOOM. I wrote a review complaining about the assembly, and they updated their listing to provide a picture of instructions. They also are working on their packaging to prevent the very sharp saw from cutting through the box. Ive also used this hole saw a few times now, and it does a great job cutting through drywall and even OSB plywood. Original review: If you look at CSOOMs photos, youd think it arrives assembled. But you can see from my photo that it is not assembled. Actually, what I didnt show is that it is not even packaged! The packaging on this is so poor that the teeth of the green blade just ripped through the flimsy cardboard box it is in. I was very fortunate that all of the pieces were still there. So when you get it, you get those pieces. And NO instructions. What you need to do is dismantle the black thing (youll need needle noise plyers to pull out the cotter ring, then some channel pliers to unscrew it). Then put a drill bit in there, and use the included allen wrench to secure (do this before installing!). Then place the weird pole things on the black circular disk and insert that through two of the 4 holes in the green cutter. Then screw on the other black piece from the other side.

This is a heavy hole saw and we were just using for drywall for lights. A very nice saw but I do wish it had more venting holes for visual into where hole is going and dust/heat extraction. Works great. It is thicker than most saws so will create more dust.

Considerably less expensive than many others but it cut two holes in 3/4” plywood with ease!

I cut a 6 inch hole in the side of a shipping container with it. It wore it down some but it is likely good for another hole in that kind of metal. I used transmission fluid yo lube the cut. It is heavy but that is probably what let it survive the tough cut.

Used this to I stall the bypass line for my whole house humidifier. The coarse teeth werent the best choice against metal, even though this is labeled as bi metal One of the teeth arrived chipped. No biggie. This thing is HEAVY. 2.23 lbs. The saw blade is probably 12 or 14ga and the base plate is probably 1/4. Installation is easy and it includes some spare drill bits.

This 6 inch hole saw set is heavy and made of much thicker steel than most. The tooth design allows for a nice cut in plywood and drywall, but creates a good amount of dust. The blade could use additional venting to reduce heat and allow for dust to clear, but so far it hasnt been an issue. The mandrel is a really nice design and takes only a couple of seconds to install - all without tools! To install it you just screw the bottom portion of the mandrel into the top of the blade until it contacts the blade. Then you back it off a tiny bit to line up the holes and then screw in the top part of the mandrel. This will cause the locking pins to pass through the mandrel and blade to keep them from turning individually. This top screw-down also acts as the lock nut in this mandrel which is truly a great design. Im not sure why anyone has had an issue putting it together, but I found it to be really easy, and super quick. I really appreciate not having to use any tools to attach it. Theres even extra centering bits included! I gave the saw 4 starts because its rather heavy and can cause fatigue in the user after a handful of overhead holes. Also, I wish the kirf was a little thinner. (The thickness of the blade itself)

This is an Amazon Vine review of the Csoom 6” hole saw Well, its sharp, I can tell you that, almost cut myself opening the package! The set comes with the hole saw, the mandrill, an allen wrench and three extra drill bits for replacement, honestly, at this price, this is a great deal. The only real complaint I have is the mandrill itself. It’s a little unique from others I have seen and used, the pegs that prevent the hole saw from slipping are separate pieces, and as a result, getting the mandrill installed onto the hole saw is a bit of a chore. It’s not the worst thing in the world, but it’s hard to line up the bottom portion of the mandrill, the install the pegs and try to get the top of the mandrill installed onto the pegs all at once! This process should be a lot easier. Luckily, the setup of the mandrill is pretty standard and I am able to use another one I had that is much easier to install. All in all, this is a nice tool and well worth the price, while not perfect, it’ll do the job!
