> 3 dayI read the reviews before I bought the book, and was pretty discouraged by what I read. But I think the negative reviewers just dont like the prospect of a HEA for Sookie without Eric. There are some continuity issues, but it revolves around Erics honesty, and if there is any commonality in these books, it is that vampires are shady a** creatures. It isnt inconceivable that C.H. has a good reason for the things she did with this book. As for Eric acting like a jerk, I was more surprised in earlier books when Eric became more concerned and caring when it came to Sookie, it seems to me his true nature is simply resurfacing. And as for Sookie being kind of a self involved bi*** in this book when she kicks people out of her house and refuses to talk to them, shes always been kind of a bi***. Its what makes her such a relate-able character, she wants to be a good person, but doesnt have a problem putting herself first, and often over-reacts. Which is why, IMO, Sookie gets along so well with vampires and other supes. Its a typical Sookie book.

> 3 dayWell, if you havent read the other Sookie books and are starting on this one, shame shame shame on you, go back to the the first book and get to it. I could not love this book because I dont like the direction Harris is going with Sookies love life. This has to be my least favorite of the series so far and makes me sad because I know the end is soon. With all the books before there was some grand adventure and a sense of a beginning, middle and end. This book has plenty of adventure it just seems like its all over the place. I am guessing this makes sense since Sookie isnt happy and her mind is all over the place as well. Just because it was my least favorite so far doesnt mean I didnt enjoy it. Harris is a creative woman and I love her imaginative stories and writing style. I would recommend this book for anyone along with the entire series. The worst part about the book is the publisher. The cost is so high for a digital copy of a book (thats all profit) and the inability to loan this out to my other kindle using friends. It seems excessively greedy to me.

> 3 dayI completely enjoyed this newest installment of the Sookie Stackhouse Series. I would rate the book 4 1/2 stars. I admittedly love this series and have waited for a new installment each year with anticipation. While I definitely would not say that this is the best book in the series, this newest book did not disappoint! The book felt like a visit with some old friends for me as I have grown to appreciate the characters both in the book and on the HBO series. Most of the characters that readers have come to know that live in Sookies world had a presence in the book. Some characters were not in this book as much as I would have liked to see (Jason and Bill), but I know they may play a more pivotal role in the next book. Of course this book is no great piece of literature, but I was completely entertained while I was reading it which was my goal. I would recommend this book to fans of the series.

> 3 dayI finally had the opportunity to read the Sookie Stackhouse novel Dead Reckoning which was panned by Entertainment Weekly. I am a fan of the series, have been since I discovered the series when only the first two books were published. It pains me to say the last several books havent been all that fantastic. I had mentally prepared myself for an unsatisfying new read. I can know say that Dead Reckoning wasnt bad. It was no where bad enough for all the criticism that I have read regarding it. However, it also was not near the best books in the series. The problem I think boils down to a mishmash of plots. There are so many plots that none of them get the full attention they deserve. It made me wonder if the author realized how many plots she had left to be resolved with only a couple more books left to complete the series. I do NOT feel like, as others suggested, that she `phoned this one in. We have the Sandra Pelt plotline (Debbies equally crazy sister)...resolved far too quickly for such a `threat. We see some more of little Hunters life as he prepares to start school. If Hunter is never brought up again, the readers can believe he is in a decent place. I for one HOPE he is brought up again, he really adds something nice to Sookies life. We see Erics political situation take a sharp change. I actually really liked this bit of the story including the fact that we get a nice visit from Bubba who helps resolve this plotline. The action sequences are also top-notch in this book, by the way. Fans have been told for awhile that Ms. Harris has always known Sookies fate. She has always intended for her to have a Happily Ever After. We have two books now to get her to that place. She is with Eric in this book. They arent in a happy place but they are definitely together. She could end up with Eric, but I just dont think so. If she does, it is probably due to fan pressure. I love Eric, he is one of my favorites but I just dont think things will work out between them. I also feel like the `twist in Dead Reckoning, Erics big secret, may be what Harris uses to separate them. This really felt contrived to me, but we will see how it plays out. I thought maybe she would end up with Alcide; I really liked him when they dated, but this book seems to sniff that possibility as well. Bill? He is certainly portrayed in a more positive light in Dead Reckoning. My bet is on Sam. I think that I would be happy to have them together, they are best friends. I think book Sam is a great guy. (FYI, True Blood Sam freaks me out). Oh yeah...I forgot the fairies. I blame the downward trend in the Sookie storytelling (and most plot inconsistencies) on the fairies. Their world is too erratic...the rules are muddy and flexible. I just dont like the addition of fairies in this world. I feel like the item Sookie finds passed down from the fairies is really going to end up being a big part to the end of the series. That is fine and good, but I just havent found a fairy that I care about. You never really know if you should trust them. Even the `good ones can turn on you in a second. So overall, I read this book very quickly. It was never dull in my opinion. I loved visiting with all these characters again. The action was excellent except for maybe the all too brief conclusion of the Pelt storyline. I just wish the book was tied together better. Too many plots equal too many weaknesses in those threads. I do remain hopefully to a happy ending for not only Sookie, but her fans as well.

> 3 dayThis wasnt one of the best books in the series by far, but if you can just sit back and enjoy reading about characters you love and love to hate then it will be worth your while. Its hard not to compare this book to the others but we do and it does come up short. I found this book sad. Sad because Sookies changing. Loosing what I fell in love with her in the first place, her good outlook on life, but I guess after nearly being killed lots of times its bound to happen. I do love Eric, always have but things have to change and who knows what will happen in the next couple of books. I mean Sookie could end up alone and we dont want that. I will purchase all the next Sookie books without even thinking twice about it.

> 3 dayOkay I am late to the Sookie Stackhouse series, I just spent the weekend reading books 2-10 (I had a long weekend) & I was addicted. Book 11...meh...You can tell that CH is trying to set Sam up to be Sookies true love but I dont believe it, while Sookie comes to some realizations about how Sam is her best friend thats it..best friend. Why cant she be Eric or even better lets bring the weretiger back...mmm yummy! Bill Ive never appreciated I agree hes a red herring. Also how Eric treats her after the battle taking her blood w/o giving her any type of bliss or happiness..doesnt feel right or ring true. Eric even from the first has always been careful with Sookie & even more so since their marriage. Also having one of her enemies after her & only the one is well...boring there is the FBI guy & others. I dont know I agree this book felt like an author going thru the motions. which is the problem with a series that lasts more than 4-5 books, the authors eventually always get bored & boring & then they settle with an ending that is usually unbelievable. So we all know that Sookie will end up with Sam. bleh...why read book 12?

23-11-2024In Dead Reckoning, things should be going well for Sookie: her relationship with Eric is solid, her most recent enemy is dead, and shes still got all her close friends and relatives nearby. Naturally things cannot stay this way, and the book begins with a fire bombing of Merlottes and ends with...well, lots and lots and lots of carnage. And amid all this, Sookie must face some ugly truths about herself, Eric, and her family. I dont go into a Sookie Stackhouse novel expecting literary development of characters and with that in mind, Im never disappointed. Even so, Sookie is definitely changed in this novel: how can she not be, with all the trials and traumas shes faced over the span of the previous novels? Still, I expected (read: hoped) that her relationship with Eric would be the one constant, and apparently this isnt something thats going to be in the cards. Its going to be interesting to see how Erics contract with the Queen of Oklahoma plays out and whether hes willing to give up the lure of power for the human he loves. There are indeed a few timeline discrepencies in Dead Reckoning, but beyond that, its still a solid entry in the series. I love that Sookie was able to stand up to interfering friends and family, but her resignation that the way she has to live her life now (plotting murder, dealing with demons, looking out for enemies) shows that her life is actually out of her control in many ways. I love her relationship with Pam, and Dermots earned a place in my heart with his determination to help Sookie as best he can. I just wish I could smack some sense into Eric...but then again, that would make life kinda boring for Sookie if she didnt have to worry at all about her love life. Dead Reckoning is a page turner, especially towards the end, and its filled with the gore and characters weve come to expect. Is it always consistent with previous novels? Nope. Are there characters who are acting oddly? Yep. Will I continue on with the series? Absolutely. Ms. Harriss world of Bon Temps and its inhabitants still engages and brings me in touch with people Ive grown to love. I could nit pick all day but thats not what Sookies about. Im just going to continue to enjoy the ride.

23-11-2024I read this book when it first came out. I read it all the way through in one sitting and was definitely disappointed. I have read this series over and over and it did not get boring to me, until this book. After I read this book I started with the first book again. I got all the way back to this book and I could not finish it! I read about 25% and set it aside to pick up later, that was 8 months ago. I have to say I still enjoyed reading this book the first time. The first time I read it, I noticed some blaring issues with the timeline. I know CH has addressed this before and I understand no one is perfect. Particularly when You are writing a 13 book series! So I let it go. I do not feel this is as big of a deal as others. I also noticed what I call, the SHIFT. There is a change in mood and behavior in this book. The characters seem to act very different from what I have come to know. I did not particularly like it but I also think it was done intentionally by CH. I see it as a change that had to happen for the series to move on and for Sookies character to grow from her innocent, immature, and inexperienced self. I expect the next book to be more like the ones before this one once this shift completes itself. I do not agree with the feelings of many of the other readers. I am not angry, I am understanding. I see this as one of those books that had to be written and that the reader may not like. But not every book can be happy-go-lucky with perfect expected endings. I still look forward to the next books in this series and I plan to enjoy them!

> 3 dayIt really says something when you are in a bookstore and dont even realize a book in one of your favorite series has come out. That is what happened to me, and it is rather sad. Like many other reviewers I felt that this book was a filler book. Sure we found out some interesting things about how Sookie was given her power but the rest of the book was just a little off. SPOILERS!!!! Why in the world did Alcide think it was a good idea to show up to Sookies house? Why was there never any other conversation about the whole situation? That was very odd to me especially because I thought the two of them were at least friends but instead I guess Alcide is no longer going to be a part of the book so that was a simple way to get rid of him but the strings were not tied up at all. Overall it just seems like the book was disjointed and was really not that great of a read. I am upset at the interaction between Eric and Sookie it doesnt make any sense!!! I will continue to read the series but it will not be something I wait for with bated breath like I have done in the past.

> 3 dayI was preatty exiceted that there was going to be a new Sookie Stackhouse book and after I finished it its kind of bitter-sweet. As we all know (whoever reads these books) Sookie is a telepath and her life is interlocked with that of the supernatural (Vampires, Warewolves, Witches, Etc) and her life is at times hectic while trying to balance out her mundane life. In this book you will discover hidden truths behind Sookie and her family, Some realtionships fizzle/friendships to boot and something else waiting in the wings. Will Sookie ever get her HEA? Slight Spoiler One paticular thing bothered me with this book was how Sookie handled a situation when she discovered someone manipulating a situation. I wont say who but this is a character I like and its a female who stuck with her for awhile. She gets on her high house when she discovers it and blows a gasket(even though she has killed in self defense and was calm about it)Im not sure I like where Charline Harris is taking Sookies personal friendships. I had to rant about that. It just bothered me!!! All in all it is a interesting story and I gave it 4 stars. Lets hope at the end of this story it reaches an ending to satisfy the readers and who Sookie will ultimatley be with (I really cant say who given how the storys been going) Have fun Reading!
