Death Becomes Her

One of my favorite movies.

Its great, but sometimes the prices can be high but sometimes low.

Robert Zemeckis’ first stumble at the box office (if you don’t count I Wanna Hold Your Hand, and really, who does?), I thought I’d revisit it to see if (like Joe Vs the Volcano) this was an overlooked classic. It’s not, but I’m not sure it’s Zemeckis’ fault exactly. Test audiences had hated the movie, Universal panicked and the decision was made to downplay the film’s more vicious aspects. So they reshot the final act, trimmed and tucked all the nasty, and shifted the promotional focus to the novelty of cgi. It’s pretty clear why audiences felt cheated, and I can see why people stayed away in droves. But there is some campy fun to be had here, just go in knowing it’s never going to bite quite like it should.

A cult classic and for good reason. I saw this movie in the theater with my family when I was young, and can quote this movie forwards and backwards. Still amazes me that it only got a 43% on Rotten Tomatoes... it just goes to show you that sometimes critics are a waste of time. Goldie, Meryl, and Willis are superb.

This is one of the best comedies of the 1990s and it is now lived up to the true classic that foretells every womans nightmare and every mans horror when the Witch Queen of full Beauty wants to stay as the Snow White.

Non mi dilungo sul film, celeberrimo ed esilarante come pochi! Mi preme sottolineare la scarsa cura tecnica delledizione dvd Universal, non è la prima volta che questa casa di distribuzione offre in commercio prodotti scadenti. Il film in Italia è fuori catalogo, quindi mi sono rivolto a questa edizione britannica uguale in tutto e per tutto a quella messa in commercio un tempo in Italia. Cè laudio italiano, ci sono anche altre lingue con sottotitoli vari tranne quelli in italiano, quindi impossibile godere della versione originale con sottotitoli. Il video è sgranatissimo, i colori sono stranamente sfalsati, insaturi, nonostante sia datato 1992 sembra un film degli anni 70. Una bella pulitura del master sarebbe stata opportuna. In compenso, cè un making of tra gli extra, simpatico e molto interessante, con tanti retroscena sulla lavorazione del film.
