Decimator MD-HX HDMI and SDI Cross Converter with Scaling & Frame Rate Conversion

This thing should be in any professional video persons arsenal. It is worth every penny in my opinion. It can solve so many problems, from source and destination resolution mismatch, to boosting a signal from my experience, not to mention converting sdi to HDMI and vice versa.

I ended up using this in a large teleprompter install to correct for a monitor being reflected on a mirror. My client couldnt get used to linux (Which can flip an output video signal natively in the OS), so I switched the machine to windows and used this to horizontally mirror the video output to the monitor. Expensive fix, but it worked like a champ. The included instructions were pretty lean, but after a lot of tinkering I got it to work in my use case. On the plus side, it saves all its internal settings, even when power is removed, so its a nice set it and forget it tool for me.

Works like a swiss army knife for SDI and HDMI signals. Successfully using this to scale and convert iMac 1080i60 video output for use with Blackmagic Design ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K at 1080i59.94. The menus are logical. I was able to configure the device without looking at the instructions. Detects and displays input format and frame rate along with selected output format. Requires some knowledge of video formats and scaling to properly configure for a particular use. If you are looking at this device you probably have that knowledge.

It does exactly what we need it to do. Convert Analog camera signal to SDI. Added benefit of an HDMI output that we use for a preview monitor.

Used it to convert our video signal input into a switcher and also to extend a remote camera signal.

For the price, unbeatable. If you know what this is, you should have many of them. Great for so many routing/scaling needs. Only drawback is that the menu terminology needs to be unified. SDI outputs are labelled 1 and 2, and referenced differently in the menu. Scaler is referred to as scaler and DUC interchangeably, which can be confusing to those that dont know the unique naming scheme. Fixing menu issues would result in 5 star review.

Limited to digital video, but I have stopped renting Folsom Image Pros.

I bought it to make a teleprompter, To do this, I used several options as HDMI-SDI convertion, SDI distribution, vertical flip scaler, and everything works great.
