I have a variety of Decimator, as well as Blackmagic, AJA, Kramer, Datavideo and Roland converters and distribution amplifiers. They all do what they state they will do. However, as time passes the Decimator units have revealed built-in product obsolescence. The Decimator LCD display works well when new. But, over time, the LCD display will become difficult to read. A known issue that Decimator will not acknowledge or resolve. The solution is an easy two solder points and ribbon cable swap - if you could get a replacement display module (a $15 part on the open market), which Decimator will not sell. From now on Ill be sticking with other manufacturers who dont design in product failure. Oh, wait... what was I thinking... when the LCD display is all but useless you can always bring a laptop with you to make adjustments! ;-)

If youre a video engineer and do not own one of these, brace yourself. Rugged, reliable, and it does some crazy usefull conversions/DA things. I only wish the anamorphic scaler had some more usefull ratios. I have used Decimator products since some of their first products. We use and own multiple MD-HX and MD-CROSS converters at my work. Decided it was time to get my own. Works like a champ and has saved my butt multiple times. I only wish I would have sprung for the CROSS with the test pattern generators built in, definitely a worthwhile upgrade. Next time I buy, it will be the CROSS. But for now, I rest assured any time Im dealing with SDI and HDMI together.

Clunky menus on the unit itself -better and easier navigation on the computer app

It took a bit to figure out the input and outputs, and how they related to scaling, but once I did, this little box does exactly what I want it to do, every time. What confused me at first was that it allows you to set outputs to some of the inputs, but that just converts or passes through the signal, without scaling it. What I needed for my use case was to use the scaler to adjust the frame rate. Once understood, everything works great!

This did exactly what I needed it to do. I am trying to capture am iPad screen via AirPlay on an Apple TV 4th Gen and throw it into a BlackMagic Design ATEM Switcher via HDMI. The great thing about this is that it totally bypasses the HDCP protection that Apple uses to encrypt the video signal. It will also convert 1080p 59.94 to 1080i 59.94.
