Sure its running Raspbian and not Windows but its quite acceptable for web browsing and light editing. I boot mine from a hard drive which this model permits with only a minor setting to allow a delay of up to 5 seconds for the hard drive to spin up. There are two things you need to be aware of. 1) The chips get hot and overheating is an issue even without overclocking, you need a case with a fan as without a case with fan the cpu temp easily goes over 75C which results in CPU throttling. 2) You need to make sure you have the authentic Raspberry Pi Foundation power supply as the ones that come in the kits fail and dont provide sufficient voltage even with no hard disk or other devices connected. Mine runs 24x7 as an appliance. All in all an excellent buy.
