Ralph Vacchiano, the respected sports writer for the NY Daily News, offers up a poignant behind the scenes look at the career of Eli Manning. His book follows Elis remarkable career from Ole Miss to the San Diego Chargers (where he spent all of 45 minutes) before finally landing in New York with the Giants. Amid unbelievable scrutiny and criticism, Eli perseveres in the face of adversity to lead his team to a stunning win in Super Bowl XLII. The inside scoop on the famous Draft Day 2004 trade that brought Eli to New York alone is worth the price of admission. Quite simply, a must read for all Giants fans.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It gave many insights into his personality and the development of this Super Bowl MVP quarterback. There were many exciting moments like what took place in the draft room leading up to the trade of Eli to the Giants. The relationship of Eli to his family was very interesting. It explains a lot of what he is all about. Learned to admire Accorsis conviction. Roethlisberger was my choice but Vacchiano makes it clear that in the end Eli is the guy. The stage was set for the drafting of Eli with the ineptitude of Danny Cannel, Dave Brown, and Kent Graham. Then came Collins who looked for a while like the answer. Never knew exactly why Kerry Collins left until I read the book. A great read for a football fan. A must read for a Giant fan. A wonderful book. William R. Gillen

all is thank god for tivo and fast foward who writes these skits. 6th graders? are yo ufunnier than a 5th grader I dont think so.. Ray Kelly for mayor .. sure 4or 8 more years of unemployement foreclosures and snobbery.. not to mention a police state like you wouldnt believe something like that Sylvestor stalone movie where he goes to the future with wesly snipes.. Not that any liberals or progressives would mind much. Put a microphone in front of them and theyre gandi and pete seeger but they love police brutality and the police state and New Yorkers never protest or complain just go with the flow..

First published in 1949, Joseph Campbell wrote a definitive book about the role and nature of heroes in mythology throughout human history, Hero of 1000 faces. According to Campbell, A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man. After watching Eli play over the last 3.5 years, it is clear that by any definition Campbell has come up with, Eli Manning is an archetypical hero. OK, maybe Im exaggerating, but his accomplishment during the superbowl run was incredible by any definition. Vacchianos book basically reviews the key points in this heros development--and these points are important for all of us to review to see how we can do better too. Theres not a whole lot in this book that hasnt already been covered in the media, so if youve been keeping close tabs on the Giants over the years, you may not learn much. However, its never a waste of time seeing again how its done. Kudos to Vacchiano for reviewing the subject in an eminently readable form. Kudos mostly though to Eli for making the book possible!
