> 3 dayEven if it said usb 3.1 and you expect a fast speed. The actual write is about 3mb, and read about 7. Very slov. Sending back.

> 3 dayPros: -Good for use on the Nintendo Wii U game console. A single USB connection to the Wii U suffices to power this drive and the USB 2.0 connection is maxed out by the SSD speed Cons: -Doesnt reach anywhere near advertised write speeds -Gets hot to the touch with heavy use; poor heat dissipation More details: The capacity of 238 GiB seems correct. I successfully filled up the drive with files and read them back without an error. The advertised read speeds of 450 MB/s are accurate. But, Im getting nowhere near the advertised 420 MB/s write speed. I see closer to 120MB/s using CrystalDiskMark benchmark software, similar to another Amazon reviewers screenshot. Real-world write speeds seem worse. In Windows 10, copying large files maxed out at 100 MB/s and after a few seconds drops to 66-70 MB/s and stays there (this might be related to the source drive where Im copying them, however). The device gets hot to the touch after reading or writing a few GB, and I can feel that all the heat is concentrated in about one third of the drive near where the USB cable plugs in. It also takes a very long time (several minutes) for the heat to dissipate. Cant they put some aluminum in to distribute the heat better? This heat cant be good for the SSD. Also, the temperature values reported in SMART (seen with CrystalDiskInfo) dont vary even when the device feels very hot, so they seem to be bogus. Can the device even throttle properly when it gets too hot? Because of the heat, I wouldnt use this device for any heavy duty use, but Im going to use it on my Wii U which has only a slow, USB 2.0 connection.

> 3 dayOk. Ill say it. This is a 256gb thumb drive in a plastic case. It did perform well with Mac. But still.

> 3 dayI got the for my daughter and she really likes it, but like me, she says the real test comes with time. Maybe I will come back and update this review in a year.

> 3 dayIt goes into deep sleep after period of time, it is in such a deep sleep, even drive letter is gone, but its red LED light is still on. The only way to wake it up is un-plug and re-plug in.

> 3 dayIts very light weight. The plastic case build quality is ok. Pros: light weight USB-C connector cheap Cons: just ok write speed. Faster than HDD, but isnt that great for SSD Since no one has post benchmark yet, here it is. If you need high write speed, go with more expansive big brands.

Greater than one weekUpdate: I ran this drive through CrystalDiskMark together with the ADATA one it replaced that was much faster (that ADATA having advertised the same speeds as this Emtec). The sequential write is fine, a little slower than the ADATA. Its the 4k random write that is abysmal. Less than 5. Slower than my tiny little Samsung drive that is not even an SSD. I got this to replace a similarly specced drived whose port was going bad. On paper this Emtec had the same write speed as my old drive. In practice it might as well be a 2000s USB stick. It can take 10 minutes to copy a 5GB file and I have no idea why. Old drive was fine on the same PC. No wonder this was so cheap. On the bright side it is wonderfully light. Update: I just watched it randomly fall to under 1MB/s while transferring a 50GB file. At least it hasnt broken or corrupted anything yet.

07-06-2025I just received my X200 in this morning. My Mac identified it as soon as I plugged it in. Disk utility had no issue reformatting the drive, and was able to transfer a large (80gb) file to the drive without issue. the drive itself is quite compact and very light weight, making it easy to carry around in your pocket.
