Have lived up in the North Fork of the Flathead River for about eight years! Would not have had to replace the blue version of this axe with this model but my buddy’s boyfriend stole mine! Best for cutting kindling fireside or helping split logs all winter. Handle will not break loose from head as it is all one piece! Been through many cords of spruce and or Doug Fir with my “friend” and unlike certain exiting boyfriends… never let me down!

10/10. Estwing knocked it out with this. Splits 8-12 inch rounds with ease.

4 pound head and sharp does an amazing job on smaller pieces of wood when you don’t need a heavy maul.

Very little effort needed to split 10 -12 long by up to 8 in diameter logs for camp fire. Does not get stuck in the log.

I have been a fan of Estwing tools for close to 50 years. I have worked in the geology field when I was in college. I have been a rockhound for many years. Im trained and have worked as a machinist for decades. My go to hammer in the machine shop is the 8oz ballpien. Im currently gearing up to do more processing of firewood at my country house in case the world is plunged into a depression because of the COVID 19 virus. I have enough timber on my property to be self sufficient for years. Fortunately, I have 3 fireplaces in my drafty old farmhouse. I have relied on Estwing tools for most of my life and own just about everything they make except the Fireside Friend. There are no better tools available at any price.

Best little splitter Ive found. Works much better than a standard axe. Heavy enough to do some of the work for you, and the fine edge is sharp enough to split really small pieces when needed. Its a must have for anyone with a woodstove or fireplace.

I needed something that would meet my needs for backpacking, camping, airstream, and around the house use. This was a strong solution - it is well weighted, has a heavy canvas snapping cover, works well for chopping campfire wood. I would probably not use this for large volume wood chopping (heating home...), but it works well for my small projects. Due to the weight, I dont anticipate using this backpacking; but, it has been used for all other activities. I am happy with the purchase and recommend it.
