Greater than one weekThese are not markers this is why the name PEN is used in their name: Pitt Artist Pens. These are INDIA INK pens ... or ... consider them non-refillable Technical Pens, ... which is perhaps the best description I can offer. As with India Ink, the ink drys super fast. They can be blended but, you must be extremely quick. Note: these pens must be stored horizontally. Those complaining about these pens in terms of of running out of ink too quickly are not following the instructions on how to store these pens. Either that, or the vendor who sells them isnt storing these pens correctly. Otherwise, these pens have a good life span for non-refillable technical pens. Pros: 1). Pigmented India Ink, that is 3 star light-fast, waterproof, permanent, acid-free, PH Neutral and for those using black Pitt Pens, they are truly India Ink Black. 2). They excel at everything a technical pens is for plus some colors like black have all types of nibs. The brush nib on this pen is perhaps the best out of any other manufacturer. The soft brush is the equivalent of the Copic Multiliner SP Brush Pen. If you need a smaller brush pen for fine detailed work, than look no further that these Pitt Artist Pen Brush Pens; Prismacolors Illustration Brush Pens is also excellent for detailed work but, their black is transparent. These pens work very well with Prismacolor and Copic Pens and Markers. 3). When your done using these pens, you put the cap on and lay them down horizontally. You dont have to spend hours cleaning these pens, like would have to with typical Technical Pens. 4). The Pitt Artist Pens are just as good as my Rapidograph (Koh-I-Noor) and Marsmatic 700 (Staedtler) Technical Pens for 99% of my inking projects requiring this type of tool. I also have a full set of Copic Multiliner SPs in Black (which are great and I use them often also) but, as I said: the Pitt Artist Brush Pen is the best technical brush in the business. If I need this brush pen, than I tend to use the same manufacturer for that particular project. 5). I find these pens better than my Technical pens because of all the nibs available: you have your typical sizes .005, .01, .03, .05 & .07 plus the Brush Nib (a detailed brush sizes .005 to .02, Soft Brush Nib (simply a wider brush sizes .01 to .07 and wider when you use it on the brushes side), the Soft Chisel, and Bullet Nibs. 6). Because you can get a little more play from the Pitt Artist Pen Nibs (with hand pressure) than I can from my Technical and Copic Pens, I prefer these pens to art projects like Comics and line-drawings of people. Cons: 1). They will run out of ink and you have to buy more pens. These are not refillable. 2). If your line work must be 100% accurate and you cant settle for 99.1% than you need a Technical Pen. Hard hand pressure can effect the line width to a slight degree (you can also damage the Pitt Nib if careless). 3). You cannot use different inks like a technical pens, however ... technical pens are limited to the types of ink they can use anyhow. 4). If working on a large project, I find it best to keep new pens on hand. You can run out of ink with a Technical Pen but, at-least you can see how much ink you have remaining in the bottle. Point of fact: These are INK PENS, do not expect them to blend as well or easily as Alcohol Markers because they use INK. They excel at line-work and small detailed blending. For large amounts of blending, do so while the ink is still wet. Ink drys quickly. You must be faster than the ink dry period for maximum blending to be achieved. I rate this product 5 stars for Faber-Castells typical manufacturing, usefulness, quality and reliability. If you intend to use this product a lot, buy elsewhere in bulk. It saves $$$!!! This Review is geared towards the Black Wallet set of 8, ... However ... this review can apply to all Pitt Artist Pens with the exception of the wide availability of Nib styles offered to only a few choice colors deemed frequently useable in Line-Art.
