Based on the positive reviews, I decided to give this a chance, and Im happy I did. Its very fast, very compact, and seems to be reliable. Its very easy to format and partition, and it transferred media from other drives as fast as Ive ever witnessed due to its Thunderbolt 3 capability. So far, so good!

Since i bought this hd every time i need to use it, i have to connect and disconnect the hd 10 times to make it read in my new Mac book pro…its really frustrating to waste so much time everyday to get it to work….

Mainly used as backup and it works very well for that. I use it with Carbon Copy Cloner for an exact clone of the internal storage, even the first clone was fast enough to not annoy me, subsequent clones do a lot less copying and complete in minutes. Its slightly larger than a deck of cards and feels very solidly built. Would I buy this again? Yes.

I needed an external drive for my mac mini (which only came with 256 gig, it was an emergency buy). This one feels as if it is an internal drive. I had trouble with stability with other external SSD drives. This one works great, also when doing heavier stuff with final cut where even for very small projects hundreds of gig are required. I only use it for a day now (including video editing for a night) but it is a relief to be on a stable harddrive.

Many years ago, I was an assistant editor on a mid-budget Hollywood film. Since digital, non-linear editing was still a new thing, our studio had assigned a special technician to the show, to answer our many questions and to generally keep us happy. Our tech made a comment once, while exchanging removable 100GB units from within our custom-built drive tower (these units were the size of small watermelons and weighed about 20lbs each!) He said that one day — in the *future* — wed be able to hold *1TB* drives in the palms of our hands, and that theyd be the *size of credit cards* The eXtreme Im now holding is actually 2TB, and its read/write speeds are surreal. This futuristic object plugs in like a line jack into a console, and exchanges data at rates not seen in systems costing less than $5,000. Im blown away by its utility, and have no complaint whatever about its use. This is a device from the future we were all promised, which will be useful far into our own future, as well…

Backed up MacBook Air in half the time of older drives. Also someone had asked if it came with a cable and I miss spoke, there was a short ~6 thunderbolt cable in the box.

Im no tech smart like i would like to be; only because i stop learning or advancing the knowledge after i graduate at high school. Im 30 btw so im not old lol I live in small village with hardly technology on hand, so thatll give the picture ideal of knowledge i have. The steps and information how to set it up and add onto is somewhat confusing. took a little time of thinking and understanding how to do it (like using command prompt), but actually is simple setup and works perfect. Love this device and well invest to have

Bought the 4tb version for heavy pdf work. First, it would disconnect from computer on its own, so every time I had to reconnect to computer, then repeat. Most recently, it fails to recognize files. It appears to be the drive, because the files are properly recognized on other drives that I tested. Fantom customer service non-responsive. $800 down the drain! Will wait to see if Amazon/Fantom company will rectify the situation.

I never do reviews, but I will for the FD Extreme. This thing is as well-built and almost feels like solid metal (a little heavier than average, and a little thicker). Cool to the touch...overall best of dozens of external SSDs in speed and quality.
