> 3 dayI have been dealing with cctv for years. For my own system I had purchased Sewell direct bury siamese rg59. It very well for 5 years. Then, 2 weeks ago one of my cameras stopped transmitting video. After extensive troubleshooting, I found that the cable itself had lost its conductivity over a 165 ft run. Using accepted devices, the cable would not “tone out”. After removing the cable from its route, the cable jacket was and the conductor was cut to investigate the cause. A powdery substance appearing to be oxidation on the braided part of the cable was present. Since there was no physical change to the cable while installed such as vandalism or accidental severing, I concluded the substance from the oxidation had created a fault that opened the circuit which prevented the video feed. I realize that to remain competitive companies are using different strategies to cut manufacturing costs. But replacing cabling is a taxing and costly process. I hope the copper clad aluminum magnesium construction of this wire provides a long service life. We shall see.
