This expansion provides a great update to the Dune boardgame. If you enjoy Dune, then this expansion is for you. While there are issues with Dune such as the complicated rules for advanced play, and its brutal old school philosophy that may make the game a pointless drag if you get unlucky at the beginning, those are issues with the base game. So, if you are buying the expansion, that probably means you are OK with the general flaws. As a huge Dune nerd, I love having more factions, and the mechanics are well in line with the lore. If you are looking for more variations on the theme, get this expansion. If you are looking for an expansion that fixes some of the issues, this is not the expansion for you. For a similar game with much more streamlined play, check out Rex Imperium if you can find a copy.

I bought this at the same time I bought the game. I only started using it recently, and the factions are difficult to use. However, the Tleiaxu do have an OP move. They can swap their forces with any winner in any battle with their own if the leader played matches any of the traitor or face-dancer cards in their hand. Pretty awesome

If you’ve already played the base game a lot this may be a worthwhile product for you; however, I would highly recommend getting a feel for what parts of the expansion you do and do not like and playing piecemeal only what you do. Some of the new cards feel like they stifle interesting gameplay, (shieldsnooper and poison blade, most notably) some cards have situation use but feel terrible to ever draw, (harvester is the worst offender) but some cards are brilliant and add positively to the base game (chemistry and weirding way are great additions). The new factions are also a mixed bag - there’s hardly a consensus among my group as to this point, but I think the Tleilaxu are remarkably unfun to play as or against, but the Ix are solid. Even if you do like the Tleilaxu, be sure not to play them in the same game as the Emperor and the Spacing Guild, as the over abundance of spice unbalances the game’s economy. tl;dr — worth it if you’ve played enough of the base game to find it somewhat stale and want to mix it up

After having the good fortune of having a consistent 6 player experience, we had the two veterans play the new factions. Just as Herbert shook his Duniverse in his sequels with expanding on the Bene Tleilax and the Ixians, the board game takes the literary mechanics and masterfully shakes up the board game with new factions

Dune has always been on my short list as the best games of all time. The old game is pretty much the same as the new, but the new is easier to use. The inclusion of these extra Houses is interesting. I have not play tested some of the new Treachery cards but it is all pretty exciting.
