Pros: Big base to holder bigger PCBs Board holder magnets are strong Magnifying glass is decent Cons: Mount that would hold hot air gun is flimsy Did not come with hot air gun mount Edit: After finding the hot air gun mount that fell out of the box, and messing around with it some more, i like this kit. I just wanted the mount to hold my digital microscope, since the arm can move around. It’s gonna work perfect for that. I have figured out how to tighten the mount so it’s not flimsy as well. I’ve changed my rating back to a 5.

Have been working on a custom solar project with customer needing power for security lights, cameras and motion detectors for outside, multi-acre storage sites. Previous vendor had attempted a solution that caused boxes to blow up in the middle of the night and couldnt power the system for more than a few days. I first started building a custom panel with multiple voltmeters, solar charger, to test the system to determine requirements. Having about 7 volt/power meters plus other electronic components in a fairly small box posed design challenges for wiring, mounting, heat buildup... I used the helping hands to: 1) hold my soldering iron The grappling clamp, mainly advertised for hold hot air soldering irons, worked extremely well for holding my old-fashioned, wired soldering iron and, when not in use, allowed me to simply turn the soldering iron away from my work area, keeping me from touching the iron while working. Also simply loosening the jaws, allowed quick access for on-board soldering and returning the iron to a safe place. 2) Alligator clips For use holding wires for tinning was a game changer. The long arms allowed me to a third hand to hold wires over the board. Other uses: I have to repair a communication board (DB9 connector) that I bought on Ebay and when inspected after several months, had pins smashed inside the connector. Without the use of helping hands, working on this would prove a challenge. Now I am confident I can position the board for de-soldering and replacement of the jack. Other Pros: The magnetic base and magnetic components are easy to reposition and heavy enough to provide a stable platform for almost any smaller electronic repair configuration. Cons: I purchased a used helping hands system and found multiple missing parts. Contacted Amazon requesting a refund, finding the process easier than ever before (didnt even have to box it up - UPS store handled everything!). Ordered a new helping hands and received it within days. Dont believe you can go wrong with this product and service from Amazon!

2 variations of height in the helping hands, 4 total hands. They are very adjustable and strong. I dont really care much for the hot air helping hands, only because I prefer to control the gun free handed, but its definitely excellent quality. Im a huge fan of the magnifying lens. Make your next pcb repair much easier and buy this, its a no brainer!

Absolutely enjoy using this stand. I use it for painting and modifying miniatures, but it still works great for everything I need it to. The light is awesome with its variable controls, and the magnets are extremely sturdy. I use the heat gun stand to hold my phone for tutorials, but the clamp design leaves it open for whatever fits your use. The quality is so good Im considering buying a second just for the extra hands, dont want to risk a different product.

The picture shows the weight of the base and all accessories held up by the Hot Air Gun Bracket. Shows the strength of the magnet and how solid the joints in the arm are. The 1 knob at the elbow tightens the angle and rotation of both the upper and lower parts of the arm so you can hold it where you want it and tighten only 1 knob. Much faster adjustments than other smaller units Ive used. An Air Gun is probably the biggest thing it could hold, but the jaws can shut completely, so you could hold a piece of paper. The bolt on the arm for attaching the clamp is the size of a camera mount. At least it fits my old 12mp Cannon. There is a second larger screw hole on the clamp which I assume is for a larger arm. The magnets are strong and can probably support more weight than needed. The magnets can twist on the base, so there is more strength up and down than left and right. The flexible arm magnets can support the weight of the plate from the center, but at the edge, the whole plate will turn sideways and slide off the magnet. Picking it up by 2 flexible arms on opposite sides works fine, though moving it by the base is safer. The magnifying glass is a little smaller than I was expecting at 2.25 inches, but it magnifies more than 2 larger ones I have. The metal around the magnifying glass holding the light gets pretty warm, but can be handled without burning. The base is heavier than I was expecting. It wont get knocked over unless you really try.
