Worked just as stated in the description

All platforms (it just works)

I was able to open/run some old photos on a CD disc and save them down on to my lap top and external storage drive.

This was a was a Christmas present for a friend. It works well with some DVDs, but not one thats particularly important to her ... a memorial video from her mothers funeral. The disc has *.IFO and *.BUP files. When one puts into a built-in DVD drive on an older laptop, it just starts running. When placed in this drive, nothing happens. My research leads me to believe that the Windows 10 on the new laptop that has no DVD of its own is either missing the file association for the program that runs the drive or is missing the routines used to *.IFO and *.BUP files altogether ... a software rather than hardware problem. Im sure well figure out whats wrong, but its a nuisance.

More than I wanted to pay for but it was worth it.

I have had these items for a couple of days and so far they are working perfectly.

Works! Had to download 3rd party software for dvds (VLC) but that was a software design issue with Microsoft and HP (HP laptop with Windows 10 OS). CDs worked with no tinkering.

Adequate for the job

It is so stupid that laptops are not made with cd/dvd drives anymore. Its just a shady tactic to try to make people spend lots of money having to pay for monthly or yearly software subscriptions, (such as MS Office). This portable external cd/dvd drive is an absolutely needed item for your laptop.
