This is one of those movies. You either love it or hate it. I heard bad things about it and wasnt expecting much when I first saw it years ago. I bought the DVD years ago and just bought the Amazon stream for my iPad. I love this movie, not for everyone but it fits my sense of humor so 5 stars from me.

I think the biggest problem with this movie is that people think theyre supposed to take it seriously. Ummmm, no. Its satirical comedy, not straight comedy. All the indignant people who pan this movie by saying its stupid are taking it way too seriously. Of course its stupid, its satire. (warning, some minor spoilers, but they dont matter much) I mean, the love interest is a nun, he mails himself to the Vatican, he spends the whole movie trying to get a cup of capuccino and his parole officer tries to get him to commit a crime. Think The Da Vinci Code meets Laurel and Hardy.

If you are looking for something with deep meaning and full of personal revelation - WRONG MOVIE! If you are looking for abject silliness and actual giggle worthiness - then you have the right movie. Its silly, irreverent, satirical, and just plain fun. This is the movie you watch when you just plain had a lousy week and wanna forget for a little while. Granted, I have to be in a certain mindset to watch it - but it is definitely worth at least a look. Check it out and decide for yourself.

Hudson Hawk is a film like no other. Hilarious at times, head-scratchingly absurd at others, this is a film that will capture your interest and never fails to please when seen by a group of people. The premise is simple: an ex-con is black-mailed into stealing Leonardo da Vincis greatest treasures so a corrupt businessman can use them to turn lead into gold and ruin the worlds economy. If that sentence alone doesnt hook you in, then stop and read no further because this movie is not for you. Bruce Willis is endlessly charming in this and the rest of the cast is flat out awesome. Take a chance, ignore the critics, and be prepared to watch a movie that isnt afraid to have fun.

Just as fun a movie today as I remembered watching it as a child. The blu-ray is a bit grainy, as you would expect, but still good quality even on 4k TVs.

    Greater than one week

Bruce Willis may be mdisappointed by this movie, but our family isn’t. I grew up with this being a super fun movie, bought it as an adult, and still enjoy it. Not for kids, but high school age and up should have fun with the adventure and nonsensical action. Don’t expect ‘Die Hard’, but expect a fun and entertaining movie.

One of those classic chessy movies that I always watched on cable in the 90s. Saw it again today and its still a fun film. Blu ray wise, its very bare bones. No commentary, special features, digital code or regular dvd. Plus amazon is very arrogant about the fact that dvds are collectables, so expect the slipcover to be damaged. Transfer is likely from the dvd source just upscaled. No restoring. Still lots of grain and dirt but a definite improvement over a standard dvd. Something I dont mind because it matches the look of the period without looking overly cleaned up and digital. The sound is crystal clear though. Despite how bare bones it is its nice to finally own an hd version of a classic flick.

Bruce Willis, Danny Aiello, Andie MacDowell and Sandra Bernhard star in the funniest action/adventure/comedy ever! Willis is Eddie "The Hawk" Hawkins, the world"s most famous cat burglar, who, after 10 years in prison, is ready to go straight. But it"s not going to be easy for The Hawk. The mob and the CIA have conspired to blackmail Eddie and his partner (Aiello) into stealing three da Vinci masterpieces from the most heavily-guarded museums in the world. Sounds simple, right? WRONG! While trying to steal the goods, Hawk falls in love with a beautiful but schizophrenic nun (MacDowell) and is relentlessly pursued by the greedy and powerful Minerva (Bernard) and Darwin Mayflower (Richard E. Grant), who want the masterpieces as part of their twisted plot to ruin the world"s economy. It"s wall-to-wall action as the wise-cracking Hawk attempts to save the world, win the girl, and have the last laugh!

Bruce Willis"s awful, 1991 vanity piece is an abuse of audience goodwill and a waste of a good cast and director (Michael Lehmann of Heathers). The story, cowritten by Willis, concerns a cat burglar pressured into stealing precious art, including some from the Vatican. But the script is just a convenience upon which Willis piles his vaguely boorish brand of hip irony, assuming his audience will stay with him every step of the way. Certain, self-congratulatory scenes induce cringing--Willis and Danny Aiello, for instance, sing "Side by Side" (to brassy accompaniment on the soundtrack) every time they"re working a job--but the overall effect is more irritating and baffling. Keep a good thought for Willis (an underrated actor better than the summer junk we usually see him in) by checking out his superior work in Pulp Fiction and his small but memorable role in Billy Bathgate. --Tom Keogh
