IRWIN Bottoming Tap, #6-48NS (1221)

Greater than one weekThere are three basis types of taps: flute, plug and bottoming. This is a flute tap, not a bottoming tap, the photo does not include the flute point at the end of this tap. It looks like the bottom of the tap in the photo has been cut off in the photo. This lead me to believe the description, which said this was a bottoming tap, which it is not. Unless I want to grind off the point of this flute tap, I can not use this tap.

> 3 daySeems well made, but did not use, since appeared would have enlarged threads for Savage 12 FV scope bases too much, and ended up not even having to chase threads in order to mount Warne 7666-20MOA picatinny rail.

Greater than one weekA good quality tap, does the job effectively. But, the bottoming taps Im used to are completely flat at the end with the cutting edges all the way to the end, this is not. This is more like a plug tap than a bottoming tap. Still works, but be aware of that.

> 3 dayPurchased the tap more as a thread chaser to clean up threads on rifle receiver. This worked great for cleaning out old Blue Loctite from the scope base screws.

> 3 dayProbably due to my own inexperience with using items like this but the tap would constantly slip from the handle I was using, warped and then finally snapped. Part of the tap I suppose is forever in my rifle now which is unfortunate.

> 3 dayThis tap worked as expected the first time, although it will not see frequent use in my shop. It did the job just fine so l am pleased with the results. I have no complaints.
