An incredible study and commentary on the life of Jesus Christ and His teachings. This book is a fantastic complement to the Bible and really goes deep into the New Testament to work out the details of Christs life. Now, whether or not you are religious, you should read this book to gain a greater understanding of the man whose teachings (and legacy) underpin much of the Western world. Just as a study of Muhammad, Buddha, Confucius, etc. would give you a greater appreciation of the faith and beliefs of others, the study of Jesus The Christ will enlighten and expand your understanding of Christianity.

I have read this wonderful book three times. James Talmage i s an excellecent theologian . I learn something every time I read this book. Brother Talmage cites sources from many others who have studied the life of the Savior.

This kindle edition solves one of the dilemmas of reading James E. Talmages works -- his command of the English language goes far beyond most peoples, including myself. In the past, Ive had to keep a dictionary at hand while studying any of his works and Jesus the Christ was no exception. Talmage uses his words with amazing accuracy and when one understands the meanings of the word he has used, and thinks about how it applies to the subject of the work (Jesus Christ), then it is amazing how well that word clarifies what might be otherwise misunderstood. James E. Talmage is considered one of the best LDS (Mormon) authors of all time. His works are of particular interest to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons LDS) because he was commissioned by the first presidency of the Church to write it. It is one of the best studies on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and goes into depth on what we believe about Jesus Christ, and why we believe it. If anything, it will go a long way to clarify some misinformation about what we teach about the Son of God, the Savior of all mankind.

I am a former member of the LDS Church, and even though I have come to the conclusion that there is a very strong possibility that there is not a one only true church, I must admit that Mr. James E. Talmage did a very good job in writing this historical opus of the life of the Christ. I love ancient Roman times history and Imperial Rome without the Life of the Christ at the center of it, would not be that appealing. True a lot of the concepts in this book fully reflect the LDS beliefs......But they do make a great deal of sense if pondered and studied with an open mind. I truly love this book. FYI....Make sure you have a good dictonary handy when reading this book since Mr. Talmage makes usage of a very high and technical English.

I have read the Bible, plus countless other books on Jesus. This is unequivically the most complete, detailed thorough, book on the life, purpose, plan, whys, and wherefores, of Jesus Christ ever written, bar none. I thought I had gained a lot of knowledge about Jesus---until I read this book. Whether Mormon, Catholic, Protestant, or whatever religion you are, PLEASE take time to read this most beautiful book on the life of the Savior I have ever seen. Insight as never has been revealed before. As if the veil between Heaven and Earth has been parted and details revealed that have never been shown to man before. Hint: before beginning, say a sincere prayer, and then read and study where you will not be disturbed. Once you start you will not want to put it down.

This book opened my eyes and helped me to understand more about the life of Christ. Because of this testimony and history that is written, I know with all my heart that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. I believe He gave His life for all that we may be resurrected and live again with Him if we obey His commandments.

I loved this book; Talmage shows a remarkable understanding of the time period covered by the book. The end notes show that he has done his homework and has a remarkable grasp of Jewish history. I feel I understand the Savior much more than by just reading the New Testament. Dont get me wrong, I love the New Testament but I need a wider understanding of the culture into which the Savior was born. I understand that the rejection of the Savior by his own people was because of the ruling/shepherds of the jewish people had fallen into boasting of their own righteousness ie. the keeping of the Law of Moses, instead of being interested in loving and shepherding the flock of believers. The Jews , at this time were not a free people, they were under the vassalege of Rome. The Jews were looking for a savior who would throw off the Roman yolk, not a spiritual Savior. Talmage opens the meredian of time to the understanding of all of us. I highly recommend this book even to nonmormans.

Meticulously referenced and cross referenced, Talmadge invites study and exploration into downtrodden acreage of intellectual playground no matter the previous exposure.

This edition (Jesus the Christ, Collectors Edition) is beautifully printed and bound. The cover and each chapter have prints of paintings of Jesus Christ. A large black ribbon bookmarker is attached to the spine. The book is large, preferable over smaller pocket size editions. The scope of the book is to review all scripture given in relation to Jesus Christ, and is highly recommended for anyone who would undertake a serious study of Christ. From the book: The treatment embodied in these pages, in addition to the narrative of the Lords Life in the flesh, comprises the antemortal existence and activities of the worlds Redeemer, the revelations and personal manifestations of the glorified and exalted Son of God during the apostolic period of old and in modern times, the assured nearness of the Lords second advent, and predicted events beyond. The author reviews each phase of the existence of Christ by calling on the four standard works of scripture in the Mormon canon: the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. This passage is an example of the language used throughout the book -- thorough, verbose, with a deep vocabulary. This book has helped me better understand passages of scripture in the New Testament and other scriptures. It has caused me to reflect on who Jesus Christ is. I hope that you will find this book as beneficial to your study as I have.
