The inside is cushiony meaning it will protect it in case you drop your backpack a little too hard (I still dont recommend testing it by dropping it though). Overall, its nice and roomy for a laptop especially a 15.5 inch. P.s. Im not sure how water resistant it is but I did walk in dowtown while it sprinkled in my 30 minute walk. It is dry but thats from light rain.
