Klein Tools VDV501-852 Cable Tester with Remote, VDV Scout Pro 3 Test Kit Locates and Tests Voice, Data and Video Cables

It ALWAYS says wires 1 and 2 are open when testing data cables. It doesn’t do this when testing 4/6 wire phone cables. So it is not useable for testing data lines

I love this tester. It does just about all you need before getting extra technical and commercial. What I mean is, this is more than enough if youre a homeowner.

Ive used high end testers before and the single biggest difference Ive seen here is this tester doesnt do everything for you. You have to select the correct setting for the port you are using. It is not hard, you just have to think about it. Probably not a bad thing.

Before I even got a chance to use this device, I am noticing the battery door will not fit with battery installed. They manufactured the device with not enough room in the battery compartment. :-(

It does the job, however I was impressed with the accuracy of it to measure the cable length of a run, that helps out when blind chasing runs. The nice thing about quality tools, you buy them once, you dont have to buy them again, however since they are quality, you reccomend them to your peers.

I probably wouldnt have given it such a low mark except I went to the Klein website and dialed their 800 number...which immediately transferred me to a car warranty queue. Not sure why but the device failed to power on correctly and the display was stuck at a flashing Voltage, Fail, and PoE message. Did not respond to any key presses, did not respond when I connected a CAT 5e cable, no change when I tried a different battery.

I bought this crap Klein Tools VDV501-853 only work with two cables, after that everything fails, even a small cable that comes with a tester failed all. I try all 6 Test + Map, failed. Not sure bad tester or Chinese crap. Requesting for return

It is Klein! You can not go wrong. You pay for what you get, and I love the brand.
