Klein Tools VDV501-852 Cable Tester with Remote, VDV Scout Pro 3 Test Kit Locates and Tests Voice, Data and Video Cables

This is a great tool - but best if bought elsewhere. At least someplace that doesnt use packaging that might wind up with you in the emergency room with a severe cut. The packaging is something Ive never seen before - impossible to open using any normal household items. Knife didnt work, scissors didnt work, I wound up having to go out into the shed and use gardening shears, and even then it just BARELY opened, but not before slipping twice, and I thought I was going to impale myself. Extremely dangerous packaging. Cant believe this can even be shipped this way.

I also bought mine at Home Depot on the same day I recieved a cheaper network cable tester and this has and will help me alot. Im installing cat6 cables in every room(below the house and in the attic and I also have a hard time to tell the difference between colors on the cable and my first attempt, before getting this I had two twisted pairs mixed up, using this made it easy work to fix my mistake.

This kit is great! Tester is super easy to use, The remote locators are SUPER helpful and can save a lot of time if you need to trace multiple runs at once. The only feature that I had trouble with occasionally is the hub link feature, but you wont likely use that very often anyway.

This is the best tester I used so far. I know the are other testers that are probably better than this but those testers are at least $2k - $10k or something. This tester is something I could afford. Its easier for me to use, comfortable & useful. I recommend this tester for IT guys who want to test and trace cables.

Great tool for tracing cables and identifying what is connected to a patch panel.

works great only downfall is the time it takes to test not as instant as older model

This version Amazon is selling had a defect in this firmware. It will not pass cat 6 SHIELDED cable for any reason. Other cables it’s works fine but not CAT 6 SHIELDED CABLE For what ever reason. I had to call Klein tools directly and they confirmed, that this tester had the defect. I had to pay to ship the device back to them for a replacement. Very inconvenient. We verified that cable was good with another high end tester. We ordered this one to have a backup on this project. Buyer beware.
