Klein Tools VDV526-100 Network LAN Cable Tester, VDV Tester, LAN Explorer with Remote

This was purchased to help out with an office move. We moved two full server racks and wanted to triple check the wiring. Once we mapped and checked everything we were able to find some cabling that was having issues and replace them. We also used this to check the status of cables we made.

My old cable tester died I found this when I was looking for a replacement. I love how quick it is and give info about miss wire and shorts in the line. Been working great and glad I bought it.

Saved me a lot of headaches. Works as it is supposed to.

9v battery provided was no good but otherwise an indispensable tool if making cables. After having this device for a few weeks I realized that it is very finicky about the male connector that you plug into the device. It DOES NOT seem to like the pass thru connectors which sometimes results in showing an open circuit. I probably should have sent it back but ended up cutting a short factory patch cable in half and adding female RJ45 plugs to make pigtails to substitute new female plugs for the device. My fix for the device cost me about half the price of this simple device.

It does what it should. I like the fact that it tests for the shield.

I used a cheap cable tester for a few years making a cable here and there and it was slow and failed when I started making more than one or two. The Klein is faster, better build feel, and the fault mode are clear. I wish I had spent the extra $5 up front for this tester.

A brand I trust. Tool works, quick and dirty.

I purchased this unit to test a couple long runs that i trenched to a pole barn. Unit works well on short cables. However on my 200ft run it just showed as Open. This was very frustrating as i wasted a bunch more time replacing ends before borrowing another tester just to find out the cables were good the whole time.

First, Klein is a great brand, I have different products for networking and power related functions. They will not let you down.

Save wondering if you make the cable correctly every time.
