I’m not a trained technician. I have several strands of Ethernet cable running through my walls. The cable ends did not have connectors and were not marked, so when four cables exited the wall in one place it wasn’t clear which cable ran where. Once I added connectors to the raw cable I used this little gadget to determine if a cable is complete: (1) plug the small remote into one cable connector, (2) plug the main unit into the other end of the cable, and (3) a press of the button shows if the cable is complete. If it isn’t complete, then either (a) the remote and main unit are on different cables, or (b) there is a problem with the cable (for instance perhaps the connector was not installed properly).

I ran 12 ethernet cables throughout a 2 story house and used this too to verify connections and help identify which cable at the switch went to which outlet. It was very easy to use and had no problems with range.

It works. I just wish that it told you what wires are the issue.

Great tester. If your making data cables or connections youll want this. Its simple and works great. It helped me identify wiring issues from my builder and have it corrected quickly. The remote has good range so when I wired my poe cameras the remote was outside while the tester was inside. Worked great.
