Yes, it is plastic. Id rather have nice solid metal. However, it isnt cheap plastic. It is well made and it does the job. Ive got it set so that my headphones are sticking under my desk, instead of sticking out. Out of the way but accessible. You could reverse that if you want. Nice click when you move it. Grips desk well. Simple.
