Does not work well on wide belts such as cowboy belts.

I bought this to replace a broken leather punch. For months this punch has sat on a table unused because I couldn’t figure out how to rotate the punch head. Often the punch bit won’t fully clear the upper plate even when the locking screw is fully loosened, preventing rotation of the head. If you do manage to rotate the bit head, you still must use the Allen wrench to turn the bottom plate to match the punch. A real pain! This is way, way too complicated if you just want to quickly punch a hole in a stirrup leather or halter. Additionally, there isn’t enough jaw clearance for really thick leather. Not recommended except perhaps as a craft punch for occasional use.

If this stands the test of time, I will be recommending this to every leatherworker I know. I thought centering the punch over a marked point was going to be difficult given the shape of the punch tip but its not an issue. The guide plate is awesome. The fact that it wont clog up with little leather bits is awesome. The fact that the punch isnt grinding into a brass backplate after making a hole is awesome. The perpendicular motion of the punch is awesome. This is the evolution of leather hole punches. Put away that crappy Tandys silver punch you got because it was the only thing available when you decided to start leatherworking and get one of these.

I received these tonight and couldnt wait to use them. I have had a pair with the red handles forever. A grommet fell out and I wasnt able to replace it so my trusty punch was relegated to the trash can. I bought a punch at a tool store and have been using it a week. Its very hard to punch all the way through more than one layer of leather and the arthritis in my hands made it a really painful experience. Went back to Amazon and noticed this punch. Got it in one day and I am already all caught up with my items that were waiting to be punched. It really does allow you to punch with one hand and is soft and smooth. I was a little confused by all the knobs and the need to use an Allen key to adjust but I figured it out and I absolutely LOVE this punch. The only downside I have found so far, and this may be because I dont have it adjusted properly, is that it leaves a little tag of leather on the back side of the hole and I have to cut this off with scissors.

This puncher works good for my handicrafts. I have used on leather, vinyl, cloth, plastic, paper. It works on all of it. Makes it easy to make uniform holes.

I received my new hole punch and was quick to put it to work. I have punched several hundred holes with this tool and here is what I have found... Pros: 1. Comfort and usability - Very comfortable in the hand and does not require a large amount of hand strength to punch through thicker leathers. I believe that this is due to the non-hollow nature of this punch. 2. Quality of use - Very clean-cut holes. The face of the leather where punched is smooth and somewhat beveled and leaves a nice look. The back can sometimes be a bit ragged due to this tool cutting through the die vs a hollow punch cutting against the anvil. 3. Quality of tool - Tool seems to be reasonably well made and should last a long time. I am curious to see how long these punches stay sharp. Cons: 1. Ease of use - Changing punch size is much more cumbersome than necessary. To change sizes, you have to turn a thumb screw and select the new size punch. There is no indent that the punches click in to so you also must use the included Allen wrench to loosen the die, rotate the die to the proper size. Again, there is no indentation that the die clicks into, so you must make sure that the punch fits into the die, then tighten up the screw in the die, release the handle and turn the thumb screw to lock in the punch. 2. Fit and Finish - I am glad that they included the necessary wrench to change punches, the problem that I have is that once I initially removed it from its holder in the handle, it will not fit in properly again. Thus, every time I would punch a hole, the wrench falls out of the handle. I have stopped using the wrench keeper. [UPDATE] I have spent some time trying to figure this out. It turns out that if you insert the head of the Allan key into the hole while it is 90 degrees from the handle and rotate it into place, it will set appropriately. 3. Design issue - There is no way to latch the tool closed. All of my other punches have a latch and release to keep the handle closed when not in use. This helps keep my tool drawers from becoming a tangled mess. Things that are ok, but could be better: 1. Depth Gage - This is the main reason I purchased this new punch, being able to have a consistent distance from the edge to the hole punched. This does work well. The problem that I have is that the throat of the punch is not deep enough for many of my uses. The maximum distance from the edge that you can punch is about 3/4 of an inch or 18mm from the edge to the center of the whole. Would be much more useful if this were at least an inch if not more. 2. User Experience - It would be great if they included some type of catch for the plugs of leather that are punched from the work piece. Again, not a showstopper, but a nice feature to have. Overall Impression: Seems to be a quality made tool, but there are some definite improvements that could be made on the design side.

Sturdy, fully punches rawhide leaving no attached pieces. I had bought a Red handled version from a different company and had to return it as it did not fully punch the pieces out and left them hanging. This one was more but so glad I went with this one! Time saver for sure! I do not find the adjusting of the different areas difficult at all and like the options offered by this tool. The spacing guide makes keeping distance from the edge perfect without having to worry. A great feature that I didnt think I needed. I make rawhide rattles and this works wonderfully for that. Lots and lots of holes to punch and no issues so far and seems to fatigue my hand less than others I have tried. I have smaller hands so this is great. I would definitely buy this again
