Leviton DW15A-1BW Decora Smart Wi-Fi Plug-in Outlet, Works with Amazon Alexa, No Hub Required

The device does not let you schedule events unless you give it exact location. I do not understand how it is in my interest to share my location with the company if I want to turn on the light at 8 pm or at sunset when it happens in my state. YOu need to enter (and verify) an email, and password, and to link Alexa, you will need those, too. I was so pleased when I saw short list of permission - only access to wifi and location, but it is useless without location. Bitter disappointment. I have Lutron device that does not need all this nonsense, why others cannot do this, too? Stealing data much? It works with Alexa, but the app is not available for kindle Fires. Why? So, for what I have now, is instead of turning on or off the light by pressing on button, I do it asking Alexa. There is a mechanical switch inside, judging by the loud click the switch makes every time I turn in on or off. Makes me think about plastic pieces wearing out soon. From Alexa skills, you can only command it to turn on or off, there is no scheduling from there. You can group this device with other devices in Alexa app to turn them on/off at the same time, but this is about it. I am very disappointed.

I purchased the plug-in outlet to try out a new (and more affordable) automation system. Ive been a long-time user of Insteon (and X10) devices to control lighting and devices in and around my house, so I have a baseline to compare against. I found this unit very easy to setup on my wireless network and update the firmware using my iPhone and the iOS app. Schedules and activities were equally easy to program and its very responsive to on/off commands from my iOS devices. The ability to schedule an event up to 120 minutes before or after sunrise/sunset is something I cant do now with my Insteon devices. Ive been needing to add more devices to my house, and after trying out this unit, it looks like Ill be transitioning to Leviton. Easy to install/integrate, intuitive to operate, better scheduling flexibility, no hub required and the Leviton plug-in devices are about 20% less than their Insteon counterparts. After my positive experience with the plug-in outlet, I recently replaced an existing manual dimmer switch with the Decora Smart Wi-Fi dimmer switch to control the lights over my fireplace. Installation was easy enough and connecting it to the wifi network was a breeze. Integration with Alexa is impressive and allows me to just tell her Im headed to bed and have the appropriate lights turn off. A great (possibly overlooked) feature in the app is the ability to tell the dimmer what type of bulb(s) it is controlling (incandescent, CFL or LED) providing a more linear relationship between slider position in the app and brightness. Ive also noticed I can dim my LED floods better with this than the previous manual dimmer. The My Leviton app provides better schedule flexibility than the Insteon app as I can command devices to turn on/off not only at sunset/sunrise, but also up to 120 minutes before/after. Plus, I dont need a hub. I was recently on travel and able to quickly and remotely check/control the lights. Ill definitely be replacing more of my switches, dimmer switches and plug-in dimmers with Levitons Smart Decora series.

Leviton nailed it! The instructions and YouTube videos were a big help in getting the new outlet set up. We have a combination of devices here at the house and utilize google home AI, leviton outlets and hue bulbs in some. The price is a lot more palatable than the Hue set up when you add in the need for a bridge. The plug in leviton switches work great for an existing house or rental so you wont have to hire an electrician to install the in-wall switches. The system controls the light operation and on off times perfectly. I highly recommend giving leviton a try if you want to monitor/ control your electrical consumption.

I wish that this would integrate with smartthings although its not zwave so that wont happen, I wish it would integrate with IFTTT but so far no. So what does it integrate with? The My Leviton app... Ok so thats the bad news if you have a smart home and have other products, because now you have one more place to go to control lights. HOWEVER what I like about this switch is you can build a schedule into it. So I have a humidifier next to my bed and have this plug connected to that. I have a timer set to every night before bed turn it on and then about an hour before I wake up turn it off automatically, this way I dont need to think about it. The plug has worked very well and is very reliable. If it integrated into other solutions Id give it 5 stars, but it doesnt at the current time. The app is reliable, the plug works and overall I am happy with it. As long as you are ok living in the leviton world and use this with a timer solution its a great option.

This unit is worth the extra money vs the smaller , less expensive unit. The wifi range seems stronger than the other model. I have three of the smaller ones and , 2 of these larger ones. The smaller ones wouldn’t work upstairs in my home. Secondly, the plug placement faces downward making it easier to not interfere with furniture etc.

With the free leviton app, this unit is awesome. I use it to control some exterior lighting that i have automatically turn on 15 minutes after sunset and turn off at midnight. Really, really slick and easy to use. Great unit
