Marshall Emberton Bluetooth Portable Speaker - Black

> 3 dayFirst of all let me say that this speaker almost as good as the Bose Soundlink (8 years old) which I replaced (left it by mistake in a Charleston hotel room). I agree with other reviews that it sounds best at 80% At full volume base seems to get lost and the highs take over. The Bose, on the other hand, shines at any volume and sounds great at its peak. The Marshall like the Bose excel when properly placed (they both need to be placed in a corner such as in a kitchen corner under cabinets) to get maximum sound due to its construction of front and rear firing speakers. I really love the Bose sound, however, the Marshall Emberton holds its own especially at a significant discount to the Bose line. The mids and highs are superior while the bass is inferior. This is our “travel” speaker so for the price it’s a keeper. Placement is key. Needs to have solid reflective space to promote its best sound and played at 80% or less. Max volume discredits this speaker. Overall for the price while it is subpar to the Bose in sound it is a fine speaker and one that will replace the soundlink in our travel bag at a savings.

> 3 dayThis was purchased to replace a five-year-old Bose unit with similar features. This Marshall device is noticeably better than the Bose. A full, rich sound. Easily paired via Bluetooth to my iPhone and Apple TV. Very useful with the Apple TV in order to watch late night movie, without disturbing others - by simply placing the speaker on the end-table at the sofa… it also allows you actually hear the voices of the actors (that usually get drowned out by sound-effects of the movie. Highly recommend this speaker. Leave it to Marshall to create such a great speaker.

Greater than one weekIndoors: Each unit sounds very different depending on where it is located. For the Emberton, it sounded a little too bassy in most locations and the mids and highs sounded drowned out because of that. The Bose also sounded a little too bassy but was more even on the mids and highs. In particular, the highs sounded great indoors. In certain spaces indoors, the Bose might have had the most even sound but only when standing right in front of the speaker. The JBL Flip 4 did not go as low in frequency response to the others however there was more clarity in the mids and had a more stereophonic sound. The Flip 4 in most cases sounded too bassy indoors (and I dont mean low bass but mid-bass). The Emberton sounded as one of the best when placed in the middle of the room. Outdoors: The Emberton was definitely the loudest and had the most bass and sounded better outdoors and had the best low frequency response as well as loudness. In some cases again, the bass drowned out the mids and highs. I liked the JBL Flip 4 outdoors for having a stereophonic sound and clarity in the mids and highs however the bass did not extend as low as the other 2. The Bose did not sound too good outdoors (worst of the 3 outdoors) and sounded the best indoors in particular situations. The Bose outdoors also did not perform well when not standing right in front of the speakers while the other 2, you can get pretty good response at different angles. As far as loudness and bass, the Emberton blew the other 2 away, but did not have the stereo spaciousness or mid/high clarity of the JBL.

> 3 dayI went from a JBL clip speaker to this Marshall and wow ... At first I thought the volume wasnt loud enough but then I started to appreciate the quality of the music and subtle bass . The clarity of the speaker sounds so amazing. 4 stars because I had the speaker on the whole day at a cabin and battery at least lasted 15 hours max and I should have got atleast 20. Love this speaker.

> 3 dayThe quality for the little speaker is great. I have seen how another top brands offer clearer quality and more sync compatability with multiple speakers, but I wasn’t looking for that. Honestly what drew me in was the aesthic look of this little portable Bluetooth speaker. It has a vintage feel to it with a heavy duty outer skin made of rubber i think. It feels like it can take a beating if dropped which I have not done yet. I play it in the kitchen when cooking or cleaning. I place it close against a wall to get a bit more sound feedback. So it’s great for ambiance and more personal intimate setting, like an upgrade instead of blaring your smartphone at speaker max. If you’re looking for more bells and whistles then I would look to Marshall’s graduated models but that would mean dishing out more $$$ or maybe some other brand. This really isn’t meant as a complete surround sound home theater system and I’m sure this would be common sense to buyers but I could be wrong. It comes with a charging cable and so far we haven’t spent most of our time charging it constantly, of course we are not blaring the speaker at max volume either so if you play it at a decent sound level the internal battery will last longer. Very easy to use and it’s cute so I love it!

> 3 dayFor example, if you play Bring me to Life, Evanescence, when starts, there is a background thunder, well, this speaker simply cuts it off. Nada. Same in many other songs, definitely they are DSP ing so sounds more acoustic but not what the artist intended. Also disappointed that uses SBC codecs in 2022. But it only on sale, full price is too much and not enough value. Also no microphone nor app, makes it more disappointing.

Greater than one weekHonestly impressed and have been for months. Great battery, water resistant, USB C. It does color the sound, especially so at the max two or three volume settings. It is not an unpleasant color to the sound, and I would expect any speaker this size to not sound entirely natural. I’ve recommended it to anyone who’s asked about it.
