The ring is 5-1/4 internal diameter and provides clearance to the wall of 2 (from ring to wall), which allows the ring and hand towel to hang straight down. I did not realize how my old ring did not provide clearance and the ring jutted out at an angle from the wall. This one is also quiet, no squeaks, and the matte black attractive and modern. Love it!
