> 24 hourThis is an awesome tool to have for all handy people. Even though I have a very nice multi-meter, trying to stick probe in an outlet can be a challenge from different angles esp those with safety covers built in. This replace my standard plug in recepticle tester except that it give a voltage reading in addition to polarity checking. Just wish it was a little smaller. The NCV pen tester is also great and as good as the plastic klein tools ones from home depot, but easier to read and use. I would not sit on it though. Would gladly pay more if they had a slightly more durable version that can be sat on or dropped.

> 24 hourItem did not work and batteries had battery acid leaking due to be old. Disappointing and a waste of money. Should have spent the extra $10

> 24 hourNot really surprised with the results, but this is a very useful tool to have. A cheap but very nice investment. It allowed me to determine why my UPS was throwing a wiring fault instantly.

> 24 hourA good combo tool to test AC voltage, one is to test the socket/outlet while the other one is a non-contact to test the presence of AC voltage. * socket/outlet tester It is very nice to have the voltage digitally display, with backlight, it also does the job, able to identify the correct and one socket which is open neutral, however, the indicators LED are ALL RED, no matter it is just open or the more serious condition - reverse. Comparing to the traditional one I have, it uses two colors where the red indicates the more serious reverse and the two amber lights for normal or open wire. So, the 3 red colors approach is slightly confusing and need to read up the chart to know whats wrong. Finally, there is a little button to trip the GCFI outlet to make sure it works, it works properly. Forget to mention, this socket/outlet tester WILL BLOCK the usage of the other one, which means the other socket needs to be emptied, while my traditional one just occupy one outlet and wont block the other outlet(either upper or lower). * non-contact AC voltage detector It has two modes, one is more sensitive upon hitting the button, real sensitive that even about more than 2 inches can detect the live AC voltage. It helps me in identifying where the AC voltage stop in one of my hanging christmas light and able to pinpoint which LED bulb is malfunction, good job! However, its also funny that it has false-positive alert on my ipad being charged with AC voltage. It is charging by 5V DC, where is the AC? Overall, both tools work upon detection the presence of AC voltage, there is a false-positive, but its good that no false-negative(where you have live AC voltage but your tool cant detect it). So, I would still use both tools for AC voltage testing.

> 24 hourI think if I recall correctly that the probe runs on 2 AAA batteries and they are holding up after multiple uses and occasional flashlight use. As I recall I can not use the flashlight at the same time as the probe function. I do not know how that compares to other makes. It has not powered down automatically - wish it would as I forget to shut it but batteries are holding. Ive read some negative reviews of too much or too little sensitivity in such probes but its so far differentiated each side well. It does show activity on the neutral side at times but it ALWAYS shows more active on the hot side. Instructions are poor. Apparently it will beep with power detected but will do so either with slow beeps vs none or fast beeps vs slower beeps that differentiate each side. I am even using this on extension power strips. Occasionally it requires inserting the probe into the outlet and other times not but it has always given me a reading one way or the other. Also, I have used it on wires and has also determined the hot vs neutral side by touching the probe to the wires. I am unsure if there is a button to increase or lower sensitivity. This comes down to the poor instructions. So these minor issues mentioned detract one star. Maybe Id give it 3.75/5 if I could but it deserves more than an average 3 star. The other module has also worked well showing voltage numerically and determining the wiring and unfortunately have to fess up Ive consistently wired all my sockets backwards - guess that in the past I naively thought the one color was hot vs the other and wired them all with that color as hot. Far as dead outlets go, Im going to be able to test that out shortly. There is a set of indicator lights category for disconnected hot side so hopefully it will tell me if there is at least power getting there. Construction of each feels so-so but again unsure how it compares to others. For the price it seems ok. Who knows if others are any better at higher $? Only significant downside Ive come upon so far is that Ive since found well rated combos like this set a few dollars cheaper.
