I do audio engineering so need a second monitor, plus I have cables to and from the monitor, and an audio input device with still more cables to the mics and computer and headphones. I can tuck the interface under the monitor and voila! Way more room. I actually have room for my mouse again.

Probably could have been a little higher, but this is much closer to ideal than just sitting the laptop on the desk. Also adds a nice little storage cubby underneath for folders or a binder to help reduce clutter.
