Nero BackItUp & Burn

> 24 hourI installed this on both my work PC and my home PC. On my work PC, it took over 12 hours to compress and backup a 250 gig drive. Yesterday, when I needed to recover a file, it first said it will take 2.5 hours to build the file list, then 5 minutes later, it crashed and said the backup was bad. Likewise on my home PC, it took 3 days to backup the drive, and crashed on every successive attempt to do an incremental backup.

> 24 hourI bought a new backup drive that came with Nero Essentials. Essentials didnt have enough options for me so I bought the full version of Nero BackItUp and Burn. After multiple uninstalls and reinstalls, this software still does not work. Tech support is incredibly slow to respond - 36 hours minimum on their response time. In todays digital age, that slow response time is unacceptable. Even though I have asked twice now for my money back via their mail support system, I still havent heard from them. Ive called Nero and hope someone will call me back.

> 24 hourI downloaded the update from Nero first, then created a BackItUp Image Tool from the Nero disc. I wanted to back up a small hard drive so I rebooted the PC with the Image Tool CD in the drive, as stated in the manual. After the Image Tool was loaded (its a Linux-based program) I removed the CD and inserted a blank DVD. The first DVD backed up without error. (The total backup should span across 4 DVDs). I inserted the 2nd DVD and soon received a burn failure message. Thinking that it might be the DVDs I changed to a different brand and tried again. Same sequence of events. Tried it 4 times with various brands of DVDs. Then I sent an eMail to Nero and the response was to go look at the knowledge base---so I did that. Surprise! There were several messages dating back years describing the same problem I had, and with versions from Nero10 up to and including Nero2015, without any fix from Nero. Ugh!

> 24 hourOk, I refer to Backup tool that came with Nero 8. BUT since Nero have not released a fix to that version its reasonable to assume that it is still broken. Otherwise Nero have cheated earlier customers by providing software not fit for its purpose.

> 24 hourI purchased this application in December to back up my files and folders. It worked for all of one week. Then, for some unkown reason it started to crash on me. It would load of the files I wanted burned but then would kick out my disc after anylizing my files. I tried burning some audio files using BackIt and it would do the same thing. I finally got tired of it and uninstalled it before it wrecked my PC. I gave 32 dollars to Amazon for nothing. Never again!!!

> 24 hourIt would seem this is a great solution but I have to say I got what I paid for - a software that simply slows down my machine and takes up ALL processes when actually running and over 50% of the cpu when it is simply hanging around.

> 24 hourThis is truly the worst backup software I have ever used. I had to upgrade from an older version of Nero BackItUp to version 12. All of my backup jobs were lost (no upward compatibility or export capability), so I had to start over. The user interface is not at all easy to understand (I have over 40 years of experience with software), much worse than the previous version. I did one full backup successfully. A week later I did an incremental backup successfully, after several false starts because the UI was so minimal. A week later I tried to do another incremental backup, but Nero insisted on doing a full backup instead. So instead of spending a few minutes creating a backup, it ran for over an hour, filling my external hard drive and then stopping when the drive was full and asking what to do now. I upgraded to v12 precisely to avoid this problem with the older, extremely slow version that would periodically do a full backup instead of incremental. It wasnt even worth the $12 I spent on the upgraded version. I would never buy this product again.

> 24 hourNero does not just do automatic backup; installing it also changes your audio driver, and in my case the result was scratchy audio. SO I uninstalled Nero using Windows XPs add/remove programs, and I reset the system to the last checkpoint before installing Nero. But the audio driver is still not working. Ill have to purchase and install a new sound card with new software- not that costly, but a serious drag.

> 24 hourNero back was provided via OEM for a new computer and worked fine, however I could not use the software on a newer computer. I purchased this older version to be able to restore files but I could not. I downloaded the latest version of the program, Version 10, and still could not restore the files. Nero is a poor backup program so I would stay away from it at all cost.
