If it’s not velcored then it will go side to side a little but I rarely buckle it and stays in place. My son is 3 months and has a large head for his age and it still fits well. It also worked when he was 6 weeks too- it just slid more and required me to buckle it

> 3 dayLove this set!! My son is 11 months old and it fits perfectly, a little big... but, we wanted to grow into it. He keeps the mittens on, which I thought would never happen, so thats a major bonus! The hat stays secure on his head and the little Velcro under his chin keeps the hat in place.
