These Factory Pilot gloves are commonly referred to as the civilian version of the SI Assault gloves on the internet however the pair I received are nothing close to the quality of the SI gloves I owned. My SI gloves lasted 5-6 years without any holes or ripped seams but these gloves barely stood up to a couple months of light use. I originally planned on keeping these stashed away in an emergency tool kit in my truck but my SI gloves disappeared so these were forced into service after being tucked away for 6-7 months. Initially, I noticed an irritating spot on my wrist where the piping and a couple of panels met and were folded under at the glove opening. It was a bunched up wad that didnt lay flat and caused a hot spot on my wrist when the gloves were strapped closed. I cut away as much of the bunched materials as I could without damaging the seams threads and made the glove useable. Maybe it just slipped through quality assurance but in my experience, Oakley doesnt let mistakes like that through to the customer. Maybe that was just an honest mistake but the quality of these gloves is disappointing. With light use, and only occasional wear, these gloves only lasted me a few months of light use. Cleaning up branches from storm damage, running a weed eater, loading/unloading lumber and light home maintenance tasks. Id certainly expect these to last longer that $10 big box store gloves but as the pics show, these gloves came apart fast. Im not sure these are actually Oakley brand. The tags and markings appear authentic but the quality makes me wonder. Ive heard rumors of counterfeit products getting mixed in with authentic items at Amazon and it wouldnt surprise me if that is the case with these gloves. If I didnt have these gloves stashed away for 6+ months first, I would have returned them at the first sign of significant damage/wear. Maybe Im wrong about these being counterfeit, but Im going to try another pair direct from Oakley if possible and compare experiences. Caveat emptor.

I have big hands. They were inadequate in finger length and palm-size. In addition, the carbon fiber reinforced knuckles are meant for......... uuuuuhhhhh those with smaller extremities.

Oakley MTB Factory Pilot Gloves, Factory Pilot Gloves, SI Assault Gloves, over the years there have been three different names for the same glove which is confusing in itself. Originally the Oakley MTB Factory Pilot Gloves came out in 2003 and they were designed for mountain biking. Then they disappointedly disappeared for a while. Then Oakley slightly tweaked them and brought them back and re-marketed them as tactical gloves. My first original pair was a size Medium, then I purchased the new updated tactical model and I now fit in a size Small, identical patterning, identical fit but the sizing tag changed, once again more confusion. Good thing that Oakley now make X-Smalls, especially if you like a snug performance precision fitment. Pretty much the only difference from the 2003 MTB original model and the tactical model was that Oakley went from synthetic leather and mesh with Kevlar padding palms to full perforated goatskin leather palms, and they took out the gray thin ventilating mesh material on the sides of the fingers. I have always sworn by the Oakley Factory Pilot Gloves, loved the fit, loved the quality and you can use them for pretty much anything. They have always been 5-Star gloves, BUT as of 2019+ they now have been downgraded to 3.5-Star gloves due to Oakley, unfortunately, making a poor decision and slight redesigning and utilizing lighter weight lesser quality materials. The 2019+ model now has thinner materials throughout which are NOT going to be nearly as durable, so the gloves will NOT last as long. The Carbon Fiber knuckles are now more flat and not as ergonomic or as comfortable as the previous successful design, the perforated goatskin leather is thinner as well and so is the silicone O badge. Feel free to go read the most recent reviews and you will see the unacceptable experiences of other loyal end-users. On the new Fall 2019 model I just purchased manufactured in Vietnam, the felt foam-backed liner material underneath the finger port vents has NOT been punched out to let interior warm air flow outwards, so now finger ventilation has been compromised. And if you try to cut-out the foam liner material underneath the finger port vents you will ruin the integrity of the gloves. I turned the gloves inside-out and I was disappointed to see some areas not stitch properly or stitch at all, I havent seen a lack of craftsmanship before in all the years of wearing these gloves. The one thing I always wanted Oakley to eventually update was adding finger tabs for touchscreen devices. The 2020 Oakley Factory Pilot Gloves 2.0 version that just came out added that needed modern feature but it does not work nearly well as expected due to poor execution. Unfortunately, the 2.0 version, has a different pattern and the fingers are now a quarter-inch longer making the gloves fit poorly. The palms are of a subpar leather, also they went with a lesser quality plastic Velcro closure which will NOT last. So all in all the new 2.0 version is a completely disappointing downgrade :( So if youre happy with the standard ones you have been wearing for years stick with them! Here in 2020 I just returned the Oakley Factory Pilot Gloves 2.0 version and re-purchased my tried-and-true Oakley Factory Pilot Gloves/SI Assault Gloves, but I am NOT happy with the downgrade of the overall design and lighter weight and use of lesser quality materials :( they are not worth the $70 MSRP anymore. The Oakley Factory Pilot Gloves have now become $50-$60 gloves at best. Oakley, what happened to the higher-end SI Tactical FR Glove and SI FR Fast Rope Glove? Please bring them back, and make them more accessible to purchase. Oakley/Luxottica Designers, when something is perfect and iconic please dont mess with the successful design! Great fitting glove. The stitching bethween the thumb and palm gave way after 5 months of extremely light use. Light use being described at, worn for 1-2 hours a week holding a dog leash. Ill never buy them again.
