Oatey GIDDS-173390 43539 Replacement Flange Forcast Iron, 4 Inch, PVC

Exactly what is needed to convert old toilet (1948) to new toilet.

We were remodeling our bathroom and the old flange was still good, but on its way out so I decided to install this to prevent any future problems. Shaved off the rust inside the pipe with a chisel, and it fit in nice and snug. Toilet is well secured to the floor. As long as it holds up, I am happy.

The product itself is good quality and there is no doubt that many people have found this useful; however, it is not appropriate for all applications. The inside of my cast iron pipe was bumpy and rusty. I was able to smooth out the inside of the pipe with a wire-brush disc that attaches to my cordless drill but this was not easy and took a lot of time. Fortunately I did not have to use another product but if I had to do it over, I would have bought the Oatey 42255 165 Cast Iron Flange, 4-Inch since it attaches to the outside of the cast iron pipe. Very good flange, worked very well for my purpose and solid quality, heavy duty. I installed this to an existing lead pipe. The product is described for use with Cast Iron pipe, but I found that it worked very well with the existing old lead pipe. After the 3 inner stainless steel hex screws are tightened the rubber gasket expands and secures into place and seals the flange to the lead pipe. Very simple to install.

Worked far better than the crappy units at the home improvement stores. I installed one of those in another bathroom. It was difficult to get to work well, to say the least. This one worked great. Worth ever cent. Im thinking of going through the hassle of removing the other one to replace with one of these.

Its going to take a little work if you have old pipes getting them cleaned out for the peice to fit.
