This movie perfectly mirrors what it was like to work at a menial office job during the 90s, and it translates well to anyone whos worked a menial job today. Office Space is required viewing, in a similar vein to Clerks as something that anyone whos ever been in this position will totally understand this movie and get it whether or not they actually like the film. Its just pure catharsis - like the scene where they beat up the terrible old office printer that everyone always hates. Watch this classic today, especially if youve ever worked in an office or a menial job.

Work sucks and if youve had such a thought or unhappiness at work, it is your duty to see this movie. It just might give you the inspiration you need to do something that doesnt suck your life away, killing you an hour at a time. Update: First watched in 99, and again randomly over the years, and now in 2021. It holds up and is still a great movie.

Great satire on the cubicle life, and really a kind of modern take on Modern Times. I cant help but think that the traffic jam at the beginning, and the close up of the watch at the start of Peters work day were homages to Charlie Chaplins opening scenes in Modern Times. Even if they werent, this movie really captures the helplessness of this kind of work and the emptiness of the kind of fake business culture that so many companies try to create. Gary Cole is spot on as the passive aggressive manager, and the two consultants are hilarious. My only complaint is Mike Judges occasional leap into his Beavis and Butthead period when corn-hole jokes and other kind of teenage potty humor ruled the day. Fortunately, most of the jokes in this movie are clever, and its depiction of modern alienation holds up after 16 years.

Of course the movie was great, but a little disappointed that the case was so flumsy and broken.

I have to admit Id never heard of OFFICE SPACE before it turned up as a plug on an Amazon e-mail. Now Ive seen it, Im glad I gave in to the temptation. This is an office comedy for sure, vaguely related to the celebrated 9 TO 5 but without the obvious star-power. In the same way, the comic situations can easily be identified as something uncomfortably close to the truth of the matter. (I suspect similar scenarios are played out daily down at the local City Hall...) Ron Livingston carries the picture with his good looks and a deft comedic style. Its a pity (maybe) that OFFICE SPACE arrived a little too late on the scene for Ron to team up with the major league of Tomlin, Fonda & Parton!

After having rented nearly all the videos at our local mom & pop video rental store, and after this one came off the new release (more expensive) shelves, we gave it a try. (Ill try any movie for $1.)... Im proud to say that after renting it in excess of five times, we finally broke down and bought it. A better purchase I could not have made! This movie is clever, hilarious, and populated with some great characters. Also, its infinitely quotable, and nearly every scene rings true. Thank goodness Mike Judge departed from Beavis & Butthead to make this gem of a cinematic masterpiece. (Okay, you might not file it next to The Godfather, but you would definitely put it somewhere between the Marx Brothers and Wes Anderson/Owen Wilsons Bottle Rocket) Make that comedic masterpiece. For my money, it doesnt get much better than when John C. McGinley gives his monologue about Michael Bolton, or when Diedrich Bader comes over as the friendly neighbor, or when Mike Judge cameos and talks about flair, or when vengeance is taken on a certain office appliance... you get the idea. (As I was making that list, about eight other favorite scenes popped into my head). If you havent seen it, give it a try. If you have seen it and rented it more than twice (or recommended it to all your friends) then do yourself a favor and get it on DVD before its no longer being sold. Movies this classic dont come along very often...

Unable to endure another mind-numbing day at Initech Corporation, cubicle slave Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston) gets fired up and decides to get fired. Armed with a leisurely new attitude and a sexy new girlfriend (Jennifer Aniston), he soon masters the art of neglecting his work, which quickly propels him into the ranks of upper management! Now the stage is set for Peter to carry out a high-tech embezzling scheme that"s sure to mean the end of his job and a one-way ticket to easy street. Can he pull it off before all corporate hell breaks loose?
