These adaptors are sold and compact. I do think there may be an advantage to having the type with a small flexible lead because the coaxial is pretty stiff. I could see this damaging the antenna port on a handheld over time.

Bought these to connect my rtl-sdr to my new Tram discone antenna... because apparently I cant read. Theyre the wrong gender for that use case, you want the *male* UHF connector. My bad, hence the good review. Theyre nice and hefty. Im sure theyd work beautifully.
