I bought this to rip my blu-rays and DVDs for digital archiving on my Mac. It works perfectly using a third party ripping software MakeMKV and I use HandBrake to compress the large files for archiving to external HDs. Please note, this drive does not come with software to allow you to play/view your blu-rays, and you will need a third party software for that on a Mac. I was only looking for a drive my 2020 MacBook Pro would recognize and this does just that.

If youve had a problem locating an external drive that will work with the new versions of MacOSx like 11.2.2 (Big Sur) then this is the drive for you. Works read/writing DVDs and Reading/Writing Blu-Rays. So many drives say 10.6 (or equivalent) or above are not advertising correctly. I have tried three others with no success.

This drive has a great form factor, barely larger than the discs it will read and only1/2 thick (approximately, I didnt measure). Its powered by the USB cable and works very well for me. Nothing to complain about.

This is an upgrade to my other Blue ray player. This uses only 1 USB3 port and it writes to Verbatim Mdisk, which is why I purchased it. So far so good. Works fine.

This product is very noisy and I could hardly hear the music for the dvds noise level.

I bought this as a work around to my laptop not playing Blu Ray Discs and can not be upgarded to do so. This drive requires spending another $99 to play Blu-Ray Discs.

Burns Blue Ray disks very well and fast. Plus it will burn M discs.

Plug and play - no software required. Worked great right out of the box unlike drives using the Matshita drive mechanism. Had numerous problems with them. Reads blu-rays at 2.0X speed and DVDs up to 10X speed.
