I originally bought this for my daughter who is now 12 and she always loved playing this learning computer game. I had various other games but this one was her favorite. My son is now 7 and in the second grade and I installed our game which just says Windows/Macintosh on it and has a 1999 copywrite date and it works beautifully on our newer computer. My son prefers to play fun games but also absolutely loves this game. It covers such a variety of topics and the games are in short segments, so my kids never get bored with it. I have to say that this was also one of my favorites and we have many different computer games including Jump Start and the Blaster series. I dont know about the newer versions of the games but all of the Reader Rabbit games that I bought for my daughter have worked on the computer for my son and they are 5 years apart in age.

My kids started playing this game when they were about 6 and 4. Some parts they asked for help on- like typing in their own story and the harder math problems. It was fun to play with them and help them learn. One thing I very much liked about this game is that it gave you the instructions you needed to proceed. Most of the games make you wander around hoping to find clues to advancement- if you dont know where to find a thermogem or you cant figure out that you need to raise the beach umbrella which make the ladies go inside, which makes the workers start turning the gears which makes the energy you need (phew!!), then you cant play the game. The only place I recall getting stumped is a place I am still stumped: if anyone knows how you can enter the Secret Chamber after you achieve the rank of Dragon Fire, please post it!! My kids are still bugging me to find out!! Oh- we also had difficulty figuring out that in order to make Sam jump to collect correctly-spelled words, you have to use the arrows and spacebar. The kids skipped over the instructions. The kids are now 6 and 8 and they are still playing this game more than any other computer game we have.

We were very excited to try this program out. We used the same program for our first child back in the late 90s and it was WONDERFUL. So we purchased this updated version to work for Windows XP. To our disappointment, it wouldnt work. We try on both computers and it did not work so we had to get a refund. If it worked, it would have been a great program. Maybe the product was defective, but 4 out of 5 we ordered did not work.

I played this game when I was in elementary school, and I LOVED it. Some of the tasks got a bit boring/repetitive, but it is a good way to challenge your kid a bit.
